does anyone know if LED headlights will fit the 2009 Prius. The dealer does not seem to think so but some independents have said yes. its understood the bumper has to come off. would like to go to LED because of a lot of hwy driving and the stock Prius headlights are not very bright. Any recommendation

There are a lot of generic LED headlights on amazon, they tend to consistency change brands so I couldn't find the one i got. They do fit and probably as long as the filter where you select your car details passes then it should work. The downside of the LED headlights i got was that since it uses what i assume more power (way brighter), it has a built in cooling fan with the bulb and makes a noticeable hum when the lights are on. 1.i did not have an issue with the LED beam angle after changing to LED bulbs but could depend on the brand.
    2. you will need to take the bumper off, and the easiest way to install it is to also take out the entire headlight assembly so you can carefully do the replacement.
    3. if your headlights are yellow and fogged up, consider restoring that as well to increase visibility greatly

HI Moses: Thanks for all this great info,. I decided to go with Toyota OEM replacements and had my headlights restored to improve brightness. Just cannot justify the cost and also the increased power usage is worrisome to me. Had the dead one replaced first and will go back to have the other one replaced next week to avoid the xtra cost of having the bumper removed. Sometimes Prius design seems really poorly thought out - but I guess there was a method behind the madness:mad:. Like no oil level indicator? My car burns oil. I found out because while driving one day -thankfully just prior to getting onto the freeway for a 50 mile drive home - there was an ever so brief notification across my LED screen: "PROBLEM" That's it - and only once!!! I'm like WTH and pulled into the gas station instead of getting on the freeway. Intuition told me to check the oil and it was bone dry!!!

Why do people think that the bumper needs to come off to replace the headlights? Is a 2009 Prius that much different than a 2006 Prius?

I swapped by bulbs for LED's then eventually swapped them back without ever removing the bumper. It was really easy too. I don't have small hands either. In fact I replaced the drivers headlight bulb in a Walmart parking lot 4 days ago with no tools. All I had to do was remove the lid for the fuse box.

For the passengers side all you need is something to pop the clips out of the front plastic piece over the radiator and maybe remove one more thing, I can't remember, then you have plenty of access to the passengers headlight.

It is just easier. I've done it both ways just because at first I didn't want to deal with partially removing the bumper cover. Now that I know what is involved to remove the bumper cover enough to remove the headlight enclosure from the car, I prefer that method. For me, it is easier and quicker than trying to faff with it in situ.
