Largest or most unusual Load Carried in Your Prius

what kind of bike rack are you using?

 

I'm guessing they aren't getting 50 MPG with the kayaks on top

I will be getting my Prius in a couple days. I plan to put a Coastal hitch on it and use my Thule hitch mount rack.

I've had a gorilla 16 foot ladder inside, well collapsed, LOl!

 

Unfortunately, my first hatchback ('84 Omni) will likely retain that record for me...

- one bike inside
- one bike on back
- one bike in front

I have an old-fashion film photo of that stashed away somewhere. It was absurb.

 

so far, the biggest thing was my co-worker. 6'10" 320 lbs.

 

I bought a leather armchair and ottoman at Target and put both in and still closed the hatch.

The other purchases went in the front seat.

A five-piece set of patio furniture, unassembled, in a box. I honestly had no hope that it would fit. I was prepared to take it out of the box and put the loose parts in the Prius or bring someone with a truck/SUV. But the store clerk who helped me took one look at my Prius and said that it would fit perfectly. And it did.

 

I've carried a gun cabinet that was about 7 feet tall and I've pulled a 750cc motorcycle on a trailer behind (not together ). A great dane is pretty impressive on the back seat, too.

I did find out the other day what does not fit. A friend was moving and was unable to fit his RC airplane in the truck, so he gave it to me. Its an F-18, abut 1/10th scale I think. I had to have my mom drive home while I sat in the back and made sure the hatch didn't come down on the tail. FYI, you can go about 30mph before the air resistance starts to force the hatch down.

 

When i moved out here from ohio, i had a full sized recliner in the back, 5 boxes of junk, a couple of bags, and a 17 foot kayak on top

500 pounds of flagstone.

They price it in such a way, if you get 500 pounds, it's a fixed price. I had put 400 pounds of fertilizer in there before (10 bags, 40# each) and it wasn't monumental, so I went for it with the flagstone. I pulled on the scale, loaded up and was about 40# over, so I took out a couple of them, pulled back on and was right at the 500 pound mark.

It's a lot for a prius.... Seemingly, just 2 big bubbas in the back seat, but somehow it really squats the car out.

 

for most people, the largest and most unusual thing in their car is the wife!

 

had to remove rear seats, but then easy fit for 10 cu ft Woods chest freezer.

Seats would not have been a problem once it was in, but rear narrow part at bottom forced lifting and tilting the front part downward till it was all inside.

Seats come out with about 6 bolts.
