What was just a normal run to the store really scared us earlier... we nearly were sideswiped by some little junky Dodge who decided to change lanes at 70 mph without looking. My husband was in the passenger seat and said he swore we were going to get hit. :cussing: :guns:

I was surprised how well our nice little car handled as I swerved away. I think in my old and busted Buick we would have ended up losing control and probably causing an accident rather than avoiding one. I have never driven a car that responded so well as our Electrophile.

Maybe my car is a little TOO 'stealth'.

Yay Prius! It got us home safe and no worse for the wear.

Electrophile, huh? Sounds like a fellow chemist praising the electron affinity of her baby!

I have found the braking of the Prius to be amazing and responsive. There is no brake fade, or strange brake action. I suppose I have been driving older cars too long, but this is really a huge improvement over most anything else I'm used to. Panic braking is excellent. We can attribute that to the brake force assistance system, which works just as advertised.

I agree about panic handling. I haven't tried to push the car hard, however it corners very nicely for its height and size and seems to grip the road well, in spite of the less than stellar rubber the factory sends out with them.

I'm glad you and your family got home safe. I suppose living in rural-urban America I see less bad driving than some, but when I see bad driving, it is really bad.

I think the Prius has nice handling, too. It isn't the best but for this type of vehicle, it's quite good. Fast speed handling is a little touchy but I don't think the car was built for fast driving or the Autobahn. (Saw one Prius with a sticker on it stating, "Fast Cars Suck.") I got a chuckle out of that one.

The initial messenger here stated that the Prius is sometimes a bit "too stealth." I agree. Whenever I'm in a parking lot (subterranean or not), I always find pedestrians walking alongside me, startled when they walk in front of my moving car, not knowing that I'm there (they often don't see or hear you).

Yep. My area of study (pharmacology) is basically a hardcore combination of protein biochemistry, physiology, molecular biology, and organic chemistry. :| I figured I'd demonstrate my geekiness in naming my car after a chemical property... it sounds cool for a half electric car though

Well I just cranked the steering wheel over, probably the quickest lane change I've ever made at 70 mph. I was expecting to skid... the roads were wet from a lot of rain. Although the tires aren't fantastic, the car's response was great. Thanks for the well wishes. :)

Yeah, black car with black accessories driving at night... apparently not good when the drunks are out on a Friday night. I was also referring to the stealth reference in my signature.

To coin a phrase from Bill Cosby's standup acts, perhaps we can get the Prius to go "tolo do do 'car coming'"
