After a frustrating experience trying to buy a 2010 Prius from anther Northern VA dealer, I contacted Abel at Koons, who is the Internet sales manager, who promptly emailed a list of on hand and inbound cars. When I went to the store, he was straight forward and businesslike, knew his product and patiently and accurately answered my ~1,000 questions. There was a small discount, but there were no 'stories', and frankly, I felt that my package II was a good value at list. I was able to buy a Prius from him and have it delivered within a couple of days. Yes, they will hand you off to the business manager (AKA F&I guy) who will try to sell you an extended warranty and a bunch of other stuff, but I believe that exists almost everywhere. In any event, they offered the extras, but did not give my any grief when I didn't take them up on the add ons. If my experience is any indication, you will do well at Koons. (And no, I do not have any affiliation with Koons.)

I live in VA as well, which model did you get and what was your OTD price?

    Thanks!

Two dealers in MD are listing internet pricing at 700-750 below MSRP. They are R&H in Randallstown and Russel in Catonsville. Anyone have any experience buying from them? Most of the other sites (Koons included) list 'Contact Us' for pricing.

I totally agree! I placed my order for the IV with Koons in Tysons this past Saturday. I have been in contact with my sale person there for a month but I waited because I wanted to shop around. All the other dealers showed me the doors when I wanted to discuss pricing. One even wanted me to pay over retail! My sale guy at Koons is so far honest and straightforward.

I had a great experience at Koons, Arlington, which is much smaller but apparently sells as many or more hybrids as their Tysons location. (We've also had our Toyota Echo serviced there for 5 years now and have always had good experiences.)

I just picked up the Gen III Blue tonight from Koons Tysons. Abel was the Internet Sales Manager; he's also a "Sales Society Silver" member. There were no surprises with my request of no add-ons with Abel. The F&I guy offered options such as platinum warranty, maintenance plan, and 3M protectant that I could purchased. There was no pressure to buy the options after listening to the sales pitch.

Overall, the experience was terrific and low stress. The whole transaction from test driving to filling out the paperwork took two hours. The OTD price was $23,660.50 (after the $500 MSRP discount and the $1,000 deposit) as quoted previously by Abel.

Can't wait to drive the car some more tomorrow!

Long time reader, first time poster. Great site.
I found Abel at Koons Tysons through PriusChat. Just picked up my first Prius, a II in BP with dark gray and love it already.

Abel was great to work with, very low key, no games or surprises, and I was very satisfied with my experience there.

I want to let fellow Prius Chat readers know of the positive experience I had with Clyde Perry at Koons Tyson Toyota in Vienna, VA. I began the purchase with Clyde in early June, when I sent him a $500 deposit on a Prius II, Blizzard Pearl. The vehicle arrived at the dealership at the end of June, but I couldn’t take delivery until July 31 because I was overseas. I asked Clyde to ensure that the vehicle was not put on display or used by others to check out the 2010 Prius. Clyde assured me that it wouldn’t be, and he kept the vehicle sequestered. When we took delivery yesterday, it had just 2 miles on the odometer.
My original plan was to conclude the purchase transaction on the afternoon of July 31; my trade was to be our dear 14-year old Plymouth Voyager: a “clunker.†Imagine my dismay when I happened to learn, around 10PM on July 30, that the clunker program was to end at midnight that night. I called Clyde, who was still at his desk, and he asked me to come over ASAP to finish the deal before midnight. My wife and I arrived at the dealership before 11, and concluded the transaction a few minutes before the witching hour.
Clyde couldn’t have been more helpful or professional, and I recommend him highly to prospective Prius buyers. His cell phone is 703 618 8346; his e-mail is [email protected].
Note: I chose this dealership originally (after e-mailing a number of other DC-area dealers) because it offered the best price on the vehicle I wanted (the net price for the vehicle was $111 below MSRP). I tried the Costco program, but I never was contacted by the dealership Costco pointed me to.

^^^ $389 processing fee? Ouch. That would have been a deal-breaker for me.

399 processing fee is pretty standard in VA, and it is non-negotiable. So, if you negotiate on out the door price, then that is part of it, and you take it off the price anyway.

In the PDX metro, the doc processing fee seems to be a standard $149 but I paid only $79 at Rogers Toyota in Lewiston. That siad, while $389 is high, no one in the NW was going below MSRP, except to throw in AW matts, due to the WA hybrid sales tax exemption (which ended yesterday). Assume that will change - what really stuck out in your total was the low sales tax rate vs mine which is 8.5% (other parts of WA 9.5%). Its lower than the normal rate, even deducting the clunker rebate...Happy driving!

I had horrible experience with Russell Toyota this time around--I bought by 2006 Prius from them. The play games on their Internet pricing by excluding the shipping price, which they add back in when you starting dealing with them. That was the least of my problems them this time around, but I went through several dealers before I found a salesperson I was comfortable and could deliver a 4 w/ sunroof quickly.

I had s similar experience but with a used 2008 Prius with 34900 miles. It was easier than I thought and while it wasn't a perfect experience it was easy and they a good price trade-in for a 2001New Beetle with 5400 miles. And that made all the difference.

another vote for Koons Toyota Tysons Corner. I just picked up my baby tonight, and I can not say how pleased I am with the experience. My salesmen (Brandon Fay) was very polite and professional and very straight forward with the pricing. We met in the middle and agreed upon a very generous price. I highly recommend him! Next came the financing, which is what I loath more than anything else when it comes to car buying. However, the guy we dealt with made it very fun. He had a great sense of humor and made sure that we were enjoying our time signing all of the proper forms. Over all I am extremely pleased with Koons tysons toyota and would not hesitate to recommend at least giving them a look. Plus, after the deal was done, they made an announcement made over the loud speaker, saying that I bought a brand new Prius, and I was given a count down and took a large mallet and got to smack the Gong! Couldnt get much better than that.
