good luck to them. as many are want to say here; if it's anywhere close to prius mpg's, is roomier, more comfortable, better looking, more reliable and cheaper... i'll buy one.

Obviously it will be only FWD with that mileage and the same wheel base as the 2016 Prius. Wonder if rear cargo room is the same as the ECO?

good question but EPA cargo space spec has muddied the comparisons. If possible check out other countries like Japan/EU specs to get real numbers. Unfort looks like Canada has gone over to USA methods so that way to compare is out.

Actually in the video above it looks rather narrow even the back pack looks like it take up a lot of room. Smart rather then offer a hatchback Hybrid call it a CUV since that segment is hot. Actually this manufacturer is bringing out two hybrids and Ford announced a new Hybrid to compete against the Prius will be built.

ya, there'as a lot of if's, and's or but's in that article. and a lot of guessing.

a wall street JOURNAL report says that ford is planning to build a new hybrid said to be a 'PRIUS FIGHTER'. here we go again.
isn't that why they built the cmax?

motley fools think it's going to be a crossover because that's what everyone is buying. well maybe, who knows?
but can you build a 50 mpg crossover? not so far.

Hyundai's system may have a cost advantage in using smaller motors to get things done.

"Here are two prominent perspectives on this growing competition between hybrid types. From John German of the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT): “The Toyota/Ford‘s power-split hybrid is the most efficient hybrid design out there, but it’s inherently expensive.” The problem is the fixed torque split between the drivetrain and generator from the engine. For part-load operation, you can bias the power by adjusting rpm, but for maximum power the generator must be oversized to handle the engine’s power (plus a margin), while the traction motor is sized to handle the combined output of the generator and the battery pack (plus a margin). So you wind up with two very large motors.

“A P2 can get close to a power-split’s efficiency—about 90 percent—during city driving, and you can match them on the highway,” German continued, “but at significantly lower cost, especially with a small, high-power lithium-ion battery (way tinier than its nickel-metal hydride alternative yet powerful enough to satisfy a hybrid’s needs). The Achilles’ heel of the P2, or parallel hybrids, is bump-starting the engine. Early systems that eliminated the torque converter didn’t work well. But more sophisticated algorithms are changing things.”" - 2017 Kia Niro Hybrid Prototype First Drive Review

First I heard in the link about a Niro PHEV. Makes sense if it was codeveloped with the Ioniq.
