I am wondering if anyone could help me out as to where best/cheapest to buy a couple products or if its even necessary.

    1st

A smart key fob. I do not need the key section of the smart key. It costs $450 to buy and install here in Canada which is crazy. There must be a much cheaper way of doing this. I called a toyota in Michigan and they said that the fob was $220 then $99 to install.

    2nd

The Plastic guard under the front passenger side is damaged and the Toyota dealership took it off so that I wouldn't lose it. Should I get it replaced? The cost of the part is $427.50 which again is crazy as it has no mechanical function (that's cause its just plastic!!!!!)

Thanks in advance for any help

I think you're stuck with having to buy another key/fob. I've read that the fobs sold on Ebay don't work.

I believe the car needs to be programmed to match the key/fob by a Toyota technician. It is a ripoff, but a necessary one.

I tried the cheap way and got burned. I bought a used fob on EBay and have a local locksmith attempt to install it. Didn't work. Luckily, the EBay seller gave me my money back but the locksmith said my $90 (I think it was that much) was non-refundable. But even if it worked, it would have cost me around $200. So, if you can get a new fob for $220 and $99 to install, I'd go for it.

I don't know much about that plastic thing under the car, but I think it's just a protective plastic, right? Did you keep it? Doesn't it just attached with those plastic clips?
