Just ordered tesla model X. Will trade in this prime advanced. It is a decent car with decent price. When I bought it, I can still claim the California tax rebate which makes the after rebate price to be a little lower than $30K. MPG wise it is a solid 50MPG car with 80mph hwy speed most of the time.

Problem is that this car can't steer itself in a straight line which I desperately need. The distance to the car in front of me is a little too far so people tend to cut in front of me.

So long prius prime. Thanks for the 60K miles you have accomplished in the last 2.5 years.

Cool, congratulations. Definitely a different type/ class of vehicle. May you have many more electric miles.

Also when you get stuck behind a Prime, remember, it's driving economically, be kind. Having driven a number of teslas, driving economically is not something you feel like doing (at least not me)... so bloody fast!

I guess you don't know how long Teslas take to charge? But that's OK, they won't need to because they'll have a full charge every morning. :)

Guess you’re missing out on Openpilot by Commaai. I have driven over 25000 miles on level 2 and it’s better than Tesla autopilot since I don’t have to put my hands on the steering wheel like Tesla’s.

AP on Tesla and the 30 second nanny timer is horrible. What good is autopilot if you got to put your hands on the steering wheel at all times?

Congrats! Let us know how ownership goes! (Aside from @hill , I think the rest of the Tesla-owning PC members have Ses and 3s).

I just don't like the look of the X. S, sure. Model 3, sure. But X? Nope. It looks like a cross between a car and a minivan. Like a pregnant car really.

Technically, the Tesla mod is easier than the comma.ai mod (which I plan on doing eventually). With the Tesla, you can put a small weight on the steering wheel (people sell magnetic ones) and it'll keep going. Some just wedge a plastic bottle of water in the steering wheel. All it needs is a little force.

Tesla's autopilot is far superior to comma.ai, but that said, the comma model will handle 90% of my needs. It's not going to park itself, change lanes safely, come pick me up, or take exits on its own, but it'll take the burden off long road trips. It's hard to compete with 8 cameras and dedicated software

Yes Autopilot by Tesla has far more capabilities than Openpilot but what good is it if you can't use MOST of the features? The plastic water bottle and weight hack is ghetto. You gotta put unnecessary things on your steering wheel just to make AP work the way it should is kinda lame.

Auto summon feature = faster if you walk to your car, it might be good in tight spaces but that's about it and it's a 6000 dollar upgrade for FSD..

Lane Change = Situational and only if there are no cars around, try doing it in traffic and the safety system kicks in and it'll take forever to merge.

Come pick me up = NO..

Exits = Yes this is where HD maps and superior ESD is leaps and bounds better than the prius prime.

Right now, AP is only as good for highway driving and most of it's abilities is very raw but yes I do agree that Tesla is far superior but handicapped by current regulation.

Highway vs Highway = CommaAi is far superior without the need of inserting a water bottle or weight on your steering wheel.

wait - what about our illustrious moderator, Evan - what is he, chopped liver? ;) pretty sure he's got one ... after he got his S.
    have you taken delivery yet? If not, consider the following things (from our own personal experience) ;
1 - "ghosting" ... giant windshield phenomena that Tesla says is normal.

You really really really have to fight to get them to replace it. Supposedly it's not as bad as it was a couple years ago, but it still happens. I would recommend buying a CPO, as that way, you can test drive at night, look at the various porch lights, traffic lights, oncoming headlights and so forth to see if yours is suffering the same thing.
    2 - Shudder from ½ shafts:
This is a phenomena brought on by the drive shaft U-joints undergoing so much torque that they wear way too quickly. Once they wear, hard acceleration brings on a shudder, & in some cases it feels like your teeth might rattle out. Tesla does not have a fix yet. This issue started shortly after production began. Tesla suggests not flooring it so often, & never flooring it with the air suspension in extra high mode. When the shudder gets real bad, you can have the car in the shop for a couple days while they change them out, only to have it start back up again later on, when the next set wears out. Tesla is very very reluctant to change out the U-joints, because they say it will just happen again, until there's a fix. Recommendation here? .... is, don't buy ANY model X until it's fixed. You spend six figures on a car? And these are ongoing deals that haven't been cured 100% after over two years? Ridiculous.
3 - just a reminder, after warranty, nickel & dime things could be very expensive, so as long as you go into it knowing that's the case, you're good to go.
Despite such warts, the vehicle is very nice. But with warts- being standard? That becomes an $80,000 car automatically, not a six-figure car.
These & a couple other ongoing issues were why we got out of it after 2 years. Doesn't mean we loved it. Doesn't mean we wouldn't come back.

It all started when I decided to order a personalize license plate a while ago. Suddenly DMV sent me a notice to pick up the plate. Also heard about federal tax incentive fading out by the end of the month. It was already Saturday June 22. Only 8 days left. I desperately need the car to drive itself (another reason).

Clicked the button on tesla website Sunday morning. 3 hours later received a call from SF tesla saying there was an inventory car. The previous guy ordered the car but simply didn't show up so the car stayed in Fremont factory since early June. OK, cancelled the customized order and placed the new order.

Tuesday received a call from Dublin tesla saying the car is here! OK, emptied out Prius Prime and drove to Dublin to trade-in and pickup. 39 miles when picked up.

From ordering to picking up: 2.5 days.

Of note: Carmax's trade-in offer is $1,300 lower than Tesla. Considering the sales tax savings, Tesla offer is pretty good. 60K miles, 2017 prime advanced, tesla trade-in price: $19,300.

    Calculation:
When I bought the prime, it was $38K out of the door (tax included). I put $16K down and financed the rest ($22K). Federal tax incentive plus state incentive altogether ~ $1.5K federal ($4.5K tax credit) + $1.5K CA rebate = $3K. $376/month loan payment x 2.5 years = $11K. After all the calculation, I end up with paying $5K driving the prime over 2.5 years/60K miles (~$170/month).

Whoops! Almost forgot the other inherent defect on the X that we experienced. The notorious screen border turning yellow, where the longer it runs, the more pronounced it gets. This is what ourlooked like - just after it 1st started, only to eventually go all the way around, getting darker yellow.
Owners are successfully getting a new 'same-defect-eventually' screen, when they go through all the gymnastics of arbitration. However they don't have a fix yet. You get another screen that also turns yellow - some report the later ones are even worse. This too, has been ongoing for nearly 3 years. Hate the defects, love the car.
Inside sources say the 3rd generationUI will be liquid cooled, keeping the screen from getting so hot, it's causing the glue to turn yellow. UI also needs liquid cooling for all of its way more powerful processors.
    All that said, good luck!

Wow..the Model X *starts* at $81,000..correct? Even though the Tesla site lists it at $72,000 after 'savings'.
