Secret gift for my GF Question: My spare key is now tucked under my dash for the remote to read the remote start feature to start the car from a distance AS well as open door locks with second press of the Avital remote. Works great, but I'm now needing a spare key (actual key, not the oval "lock/unlock" fob. Is this a dealership item, or can I have a spare key only made at a hardware store?
Wal Mart can do it as well as any good locksmith. Since you're keeping a key under your dash, you only need the steel or physical lock turning portion of the key so really, any hardware store can do it.
Yes, it will read the rf from the key you put under the dash. Just buy an old Toyota key like from a 1991 or something that has the same key blank without worrying about the chip inside.
The transponder keys are about $20 for 2 on ebay, I got mine cut at Home Depot, and got the programming directions off the web. SCH-I605 ?
