    Spare tire issue solved?

Wilco Offroad Hitchgate Solo, the "High Clearance" version. Weighs under 50lbs, + wheel/tire.

Yes, of course it somewhat obscures the back-up camera..but you can still see what you need to. It comes with the side benefit of a full-size spare tire on the ready.

Don't @ me re: how much it costs. I'm not responsible for that...and my time is worth not waiting on the side of the highway at the mercy of the tow truck.

Humm... I think I will stick with my way of storing a full size spare. Have you noticed any mpg drop?

Your method is great for when you don't have humans with you. I normally had it in trunk.

MPG hit is negligible...maybe 5% drop while on EV?

The mountain bike takes a 20% hit on EV range...this is hardly noticed.

Haven't done it all yet...but as you can see, the carrier has an extra hitch that, theoretically I could also use with a bike rack. I only use the tire carrier for long trips...so haven't done both yet.

So it's like driving a Jeep, but one that's not always needing repairs.:LOL: Pretty cool in a lot of way despite the cost to the bank account and the hit on efficiency.

I see that it pretty much obscures the license plate. Have you had any issues with that yet? That would be my main concern.

    Hey Jerry, not yet.

I only use it on trips, so rather than buy the license plate relocation kit that the company sells, I thought I'd risk the fix-it-ticket.

Nice! A little extreme but not many other solid options. What 2" receiver are you using? I don't think i've seen anything other than 1.25".

OMG, someone actually read my post from last year and took it seriously:

I like it. Is there enough clearance behind the rack for their fuel tanks? Did you ask them to make a custom smaller hitch or are you somehow running a 2inch hitch?

I ended up making a custom 2 inch hitch for my gen 3 and gen 4. The 1.25" hitch accessories tend to flex too much when loaded with bikes or cargo on rough roads. Its also nice to be able to swap back and forth between the truck and prius without having the added wobble of using a 1.25"-2" adapter.
