Yes, that's right! After running PriusChat for 2 1/2 years, I'm finally going to be picking up my 2006 Prius Magnetic Gray #8 from Grossinger Toyota in Chicago the weekend of July 15th! I'm very excited to make the trip up to Chicago to pick up the car, but I can't wait to make the drive home!

TJ Prayner and Grossinger Toyota would like to host a PriusChat Meet-up / Hybrid Day that weekend. The current plans are for this day include food, fun, and fellowship. The event will be open to the public and we will try to have all of the current Toyota hybrid models available for test drives, and I would hope that PriusChat members would be willing to help answer hybrid-related questions for the public.

So here are the outstanding questions:
    • How many PriusChatters will be able to attend?
      • Please respond to this post with your interest
    • Which day works better? Saturday July 15th or Sunday July 16th
      • If we have more than a 15 or so PriusChatters able to come, we might hold the event on Sunday since we don't want to take up all of the room at the dealership on their busiest day of the week. Holding it Sunday will also keep the public from feeling any sales pressure since Grossinger can't sell any cars on Sundays. I would prefer Sunday.
      • UPDATE: The event will be held Sunday in order to accomodate for space.
    • What other ideas do you have for that day?
    • Any suggestions for me for a hotel? I'll be coming into town Friday morning with my fiance, Nichole, and my brother. My brother will be flying out Sunday night and Nichole and I are planning on leaving Monday morning.
    • Any suggestions on must-see Chicago-area events for 3 people in their mid-late 20s?
I can't wait to come up in July and see everyone!

    Danny

geez, if there was any reasonable way to combine that with a potential
long slog to Hybridfest, I would, but I'd have nothing to do between
this event and Madison for 4 or 5 days.

WOO HOO!!!! Congrats, Danny! You're going to love driving your brand new baby. I wish I could attend, but I'm sure you'll have a healthy turnout of Prius-obsessive well wishers to usher you into your new car. Do I need to let you know where you can get a GREAT deal on the extended warranty? :-D

You can pretty much count on me being there. I prefer Sunday. I think Grossinger does too, they just don't know it yet. The fact that it's illegal in the state of IL to sell a car on Sunday means that Sunday is the best day to get customers in without the fear of "vultures" swooping in on them. Can you imagine it?: going to a dealership, looking around, talking with actual sales reps and they are not legally able to "get you into that car today."

I can't think of anything special off the top of my head. I can make a few copies of my lifetime spreadsheet and chart to show real-world results in Chicagoland. Oh, and I'll bring my Powerpoint slides from my presentation showing the different stages of hybrid function (without killing them with too many details and specifications). I'm sure we will be able to think of things.

Oh! And a tape measure. Yeah, that's it. Why? Because no one believes just how big the inside of the car really is. I want to stretch a tape from hatch to dash to show how we haul things. Which reminds me, if we have several Prii there, at least one should have all the seats folded down. Another should have all the compartments open. Another should show some other little and often-overlooked aspect of the Prius.

I'll send an email and PM to the Chicagoland members.

If only it was a little closer to California. Hopefully PriusChat will be self sufficient while you are on your "honeymoon" with the lovely Magnetic One.

This sounds like a must go event. Either day works fine. Where do you want to stay in Chicago? Will you be flying in?

I think I should be able to make it, I have been planning on it since this was posted in the Chicago forum.

I will have to confirm with the wife an our schedules, but I would say I should be there, and this will be my 1st meet as well.

I would be open for either day, but Sunday should work for me.

Unfortunately it's 11.5 hours away for me. Just a bit too far. If it was 8 hours or less, I'd try. :(

I'd like to attend if it's on Sunday, July 16th. I'm showing my Thunderbird at Joe Cotton Ford on Saturday, July 15th so I wouldn't be able to make that.

Let me know what day it ends up being held.

Danny's brother Tim here... we're flying into Midway early in the AM on Friday. Don't really have a preference on hotels...something fairly close to Grossinger, I'd guess, but also not too far from the downtown area.

    Any suggestions on hotels?

Way to go Danny. I live only a few miles from your event and would be happy to attend and finally meet the man behind the Start Button! Sunday works best for me as well.

    Wow! Congratulations Danny!

It would be so cool to drive out to Chicago for the event, but I don't think it would work for me on that weekend.

Please take and post lots of pictures...all the Prii and the people they own!

    Congrats, Danny.

Now I'll ask the question I'm sure all of we newbies are wondering.

Danny—or anyone who's been around long enough to know the story:

Why have you been running this board for 2.5 years without even owning a Prius?

And I will ask why are you going ALL the way to Chicago to pick up your Prius?

Also while were asking questions what made you decide on a Gray Prius?
