I noticed this also. If Park is engaged the car shakes and jerks forward a little. I started engaging the parking brake and this minimized the shake, but I still notice this a little.

It's a torque issue. The motor being mounted transversely causes the car to "lurch" forward when the motor starts. The same is true when a V8 revs up and you feel the car roll side to side. There's just too much power under the hood of these Prii.

    Normal it appears.

I napped a bit in mine with AC on in 85 degree temp with high humidity and AC set to 73 or so.

Engine started up every 5 minutes or so and ran for one minute. Each restart caused the car to jerk a bit so I decided I needed the parking brake on too.

All part of the quirky Prius personality... :) (We don't call them flaws here.)

Perfectly normal. Has to do with the fact that drive is always engaged, even when the parking pall (sp?) is on. You'll get used to it. I always engage my emergency (parking) brake in addition to putting the car in park. A habit I can't break from the "olden days".

You'll notice that the start-up shakes subside as the car breaks in (and you get used to it, perhaps.) See if you think it shakes so much after 6000 miles or so.

And get that annoying jerk off your car, he isn't an attractive hood ornament.

It's part of the transmission. Because all the gears are always engaged to the tires, when the engine starts, a little torque makes it through the MG before the prius manages to send a counter-force to the MG to balance it out.

    Normal.
