I am adding an amp and sub to my current JBL premium system, does anyone have a schematic with color codes so that I can identify which wires to tap?
You'll need something that can take in high-level inputs (like 40 watts RMS) because you'll need to use the outputs from the JBL amp. There are no normal low-level analog inputs coming from the head unit to the JBL amp...they're what I believe are a digital balanced input. The other zinger is that the system does quite a bit of digital signal processing (time alignment, variable levelling, speaker specific cross-over frequencies, etc.). Some have chosen to undo all of that by using a signal processor like the JBL MS-8 or the Rockford 3Sixty.3 or the JL Audio CleenSweep....in order to get a clean signal to use as input for their aftermarket amps. If your aftermarket amp is only going to be driving a sub, you may be able to get away with something a little more simple...anything that can take the high-level output from the amp and give you RCA outputs for your amp may work okay (cleansweep or some of the better line output converters).
Hi Skunkworks, This may help. I got this info from another doc I downloaded a few years back. Here is a link to a post for my last install: Link 1 Link 2 Photos -> The Priuschat upgrade a few years back broke all my photo links, but here are the photos from the post. -Zed
