My Prius is 3 months old and has just over 4K miles on it. My current tank of gas is running at 54 mpg on the MFD. I've been averaging about 50 MPG (barely) for the past two months. Of course it could be because the AC isn't working nearly as hard. The high temps have been in the mid 70's to low 80's this week. Instead of the 90's it has been for a while now. Time will tell. I'll be doing my first oil change by the middle of next month before I go on vacation. *sigh* Too many variables.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jan @ Aug 30 2006, 08:39 PM) </div> Hard to say. I think most people notice one at about 6k miles and another around the 20-25k mark. But there may be others. For me the whole thing's been a gradual progression. I don't think I've seen a 'jump' for about 25k miles (at about the 24k mile mark), but it's become very hard to tell whether improvements are from my driving, my tires breaking in, weather conditions, driving conditions, changing to a K&N air filter or what.
I really haven't noticed much of a break in point at all and I'm at 30k miles. It may in part however be due to the fact that I drive 30k miles a year, so I keep hitting each breaking point so quickly and due to seasonal changes, it is just difficult to tell. From day 1, I've been able to get 50mpg and I can still get that now. From my experience, I'd say temp changes have the biggest impact.
I thought I hit improvements at 5, 8 an 10 K. maybe temps had something to do with it as well as my driving skills changing...
