It starts as normal, but does not move when I shift it into gear. What could be causing this? Thank you

The 12v has only 20,000 miles on it. The total mileage on the car 123,000. The dash lights all seem normal.

I will try this tomorrow. I have never done diy on a car, but from what I've seen on youtube it looks easy.

Is it possible this will fix the problem or will I eventually need to have it towed to a mechanic?

Too early to tell. It's not even really a good diagnostic step, because it will erase recorded data (if any) about the actual fault. On the other hand, it may get the car driving again.

Check if the cable on the shifter moves the lever on the transmission. The C has a mechanical link.

There is another problem I discovered last night. I can't seem to open the hood. I pulled the little lever under the steering wheel that should pop the hood, but it doesn't pop. I'm assuming, to do this, I would have to have someone shift into gear as I look at the transmission under the hood.

You'd probably have to get under the car to look for trouble with the shift linkage. I don't think it is visible from the top.

Either way, you're going to need to get the hood open soon. If you've got a helper available, have someone gently press down on the front lip of the hood while you pull the release. Sometimes that can help. Either way you'll want to clean/lubricate/adjust that latch before closing the hood again.

Sometimes the hood doesn't pop when you pull the release lever. Just give the front of the hood a pull, it should come up to where you can move the under-the-hood lever.

Thank you for all your advice. I don't see the jack in the back of the car. I don't like the idea of being under the car when it's propped up anyways. Especially if someone is in the car while I am under it so they can move the shifter, lol! Another problem - The driver's side door does not unlock when I stick my hand in the door handle. I'm sure that's related to this possible computer system problem.

I have decided to have it towed to a repair shop in a couple days when AAA will tow it for free. Any advice on how to not get ripped off at the repair shop would be appreciated.

The hood remains flush with the frame, so there's no way to get my fingers in. I felt around in the grill area, but could not find a latch to release the hood.

The hood release cable is hooked with a "T" shaped end to a slot on a lever that releases the latch. You need to jack up the car and securely place two jack stands in the front and craw on your back behind the radiator. If there are plastic panels, you need to remove them to access this area.

Using a flashlight look upward to the area near the top in back of the radiator and locate the "T" end hooked to the hood latch. Using a screwdriver, push it to your left toward the driver's side fender. This will release the hood.

Then come back on top and unhook the secondary safety latch. Your hood is then ready to be propped on the rod.

Make sure you are pulling the hood release and not the steering wheel tilt lever.
It will be on the far left bottom of dash.

Very strange it does not release now.

Also sounds like 12v problems. Which brand did you put in last time?

I had a mechanic replace the old one about 20,000 miles ago. I think I see where the 12v is, over the right rear wheel, but I don't know how to get that black piece of plastic off. [IMG]I have a pic of it, but it's not online, so I can't include it here. It's not like the prius in this video:
