Is the US a democracy, plutocracy, kakistocracy or MEGALOKLEPTOKAKISTOCRACY?

Combinations are possible - such as a kakistocractic government serving a plutocratic elite with trappings of theocracy and a dash of democratic window-dressing.

No opinions? I take it we can agree on kakistocracy then. As in W=worst.

I'd say it was more of a corporatocracy than a plutocracy since corporatocracy includes the wealthy of other countries among our rulers.
We're a kakistocracy as well because it suits the interests of our corporatocracy.

Thanks. I admit that kakistocracy is a pretty odious word. Almost as bad as the thing it represents.

Good point. Countries are no longer relevant. All that matters is whether you are rich or poor, whether in the US, China, Europe etc. Money is always welcome, anywhere in the world. Also a good point about government being deliberately incompetent (hence G. Bush) This strengthens the corporate elite by forcing people to rely on corporations rather than govenment - for example health savings accounts instead of government health systems. The world is not run by the US or any other country, but by Exxon, Mobil, Merck, Haliburton, etc.

World banks, lending international institutions paired with multi-nationals are the ones that control all global politics with all governments (excluding perhaps San Marino  ).

Democracy is way too archaic term, although it still may be valid on a municipal or county level. Term is used mainly for propagandistic measures and became rather unquestionable formulaic definition to appease society at large.

I would say what we currently have is "Plutocratic multi-national corporatocracy"

    None of the above.

We're in the grip of a MEGALOKLEPTOKAKISTOCRACY.

I'd say god help us but he can't. Rumsfeld fired god three years ago for (irony of ironies: incompetence). It didn't make the press at the time because god is humble and didn't want to make a fuss.

We came really close to become a kakistocracy twice in the past decade. Fortunately though, Gore and Kerry lost.

We've got to be careful though. We risk becoming a kakistocracy this November. It seems the Democrats think they might win control of Congress next election.

Which would shift political power in the U.S. from a bunch of transnational corporations to [*pause for effect ... the envelope please ...] the same transnational corporations!

I wonder if Kerry had been elected how many times would you see a bottle of ketsup in the picture?

Or Gore the man who invented the internet & brought us tree hugging without the splinters. :p

I say let a left wing liberal become pres. that way when everything goes to hell in a handbasket and we all strat pointing fingers you will have no one but your selfve to blame.. ;)

As someone else here in this thread said, the country is run by big business and the people who we vote in are the puppets. I read a study that said everything a president does in office carries over for 2-3 yrs into the next presidents term..

If thats the case there should be some clinton bashing, examples: he down sized our military, raised taxes, couldnt finnish what he would start.. hmm maybe he too should have taken up peanut farming

We're an oligarchy. All those years we've been teaching Latin American militaries how to rape nuns etc., we've been getting lessons in return.

How odd... I heard that line from some ignorant Democrats in 2000. And now look what we have. Republicans, dug themselves into a deep hole, bankrupted the country, spending like there is no tomorrow, destroyed foreign relations and internal infrastructure, etc.. And you now want to dump this morass on the Democrats and go nah, nah, see what you can do.

Grow up. This is our children's future, not some game.
