I missed the boat on the past listings so here I am again. Sorry. On the 2014 Prius Plugin that listed by a Toyota dealer, the following is reflected on the Carfax report. Anti-theft/keyless device/alarm removed I was told by the dealer that only 1 key is with the listed Prius-no 2 keys plus valet key, but just 1 key. I have never had a vehicle with just 1 key. My current non-hybrid vehicle when I bought it, as a pre-owned, have 2 black keys and 1 beige (valet?) key. On the listing page shows the following information. Security Anti-theft system: alarm Power door locks : anti-lockout Anti-theft system : engine immobilizer 2-stage unlocking doors Power door locks: auto-locking I checked the VIN and I got more confused... lists the following. Controls 3 Door Smart Key System Push Button Start w/ Remote Illum. Entry Power Locks & Auto Up/Down Power Windows The 2014 Prius Plugin is around 141k mileage at $8,700 listing price. My other option would be the 2013 Prius v Five, around 99k mileage at $12,500. Will be less 8-10MPG but with more cargo and passenger space. , Is having 1 key for the 2014 Prius Plugin good enough at that price point of $8,700? There is another 2014 Prius Plugin listed from a different Toyota dealer but at 139k mileage for $10,988. Both the 2014 Prius Plugins as well as the 2013 Prius v Five are clear and no accidents.
Well a replacement second key won't cost $2,000, that's for sure. Maybe you could make a deal with the dealer to get a second key cut/coded. It was probably just lost or never returned when the car was sold, no big deal.
I'd make a second key a condition of sale, with a reasonable adjustment to the price. If they're not flexible on that, just move on.
why would the 2013 be 8-10 mpg less? they should be similar. if you want a plug in, get a plug in. as k for a free key, or at least discounted. they can be $400. at a dealer. check both pips to se if they are base or advanced, big difference. and make sure you get an evse. test drive them with a full charge on the same route, and see how far you can go in ev before the charge runs out and the engine comes on. all the best!
one thing i haven't seen addressed here or your other thread is the egr circuit/oil burning/headgasket issues. it would be well advised for you to brush up on these issues so that you're prepared to tackle them prophylactically, or at least be aware in case they come up.
Ah, cus it's a Prius v, the bigger version. @bisco's a deep one; I looked that up the first time he used it, not what you'd think, lol. Means proactively, beforehand, something like that. Yeah EGR cleaning would not be overkill, prior to 100K miles. I did ours at 70K kms, was getting fairly carboned up already. Ditto for intake manifold, and Oil Catch Can install.
I would assume reaching the EGR valve would be easier on the Prius since it has a smaller engine bay. Did cleaned the EGR valve on my current vehicle. Should be easier on the Prius Plugin I hope.
Smaller engine bay more likely equates to more tightly packed components, and the need to do more removal of peripherals, for access. What vehicle is that? Here's a video by @NutzAboutBolts, #17: Nutz About Bolts Prius Maintenance Videos | PriusChat And he references a few other videos, for access, removal of other stuff. And this thread, started by @Rebound has a lot of info: EGR & Intake Manifold Clean Results | PriusChat
2005 Mitsubishi Galant ES. The EGR valve is in the middle-back. Being a short man that I am, it was a little difficult to reach it.
Went ahead with the purchase. The charging cable is still new wrapped around on a bubble wrap. That vehicle was sitting on the dealer lot for around 3 months until today. Dealer did gave me the 2nd key. No charge. It was sitting somewhere where they store all the keys. Thank you everyone for the input!
Wow, you got a plug in for $8,700? I just totaled my 2012 Prius plug in with about 123,xxx miles and the insurance is going to give me $12,xxx as a total loss on the car. What state are you in? iPhone ?
California, Los Angeles area Yes, I used an iPhone 7 to take that photo. And yes. I hate those bars on the left and right sides of the photo
