Is the 06 an ATPVEV or ULEV??

The hardware supports AT-PZEV.

The warranty for most states is only SULEV.

The highest rating for some states is only ULEV.

The gasoline for some states wasn't low-sulfur until a few weeks ago.

Now do you understand why it is so darn confusing? The emission identification is based on location, preventing the labeling from being consistent throughout the country. But since the hardware is the same nationwide, who cares? You purchased a vehicle built to deliver AT-PZEV. So that is what you can say your Prius is.

 

The window sticker says AT-PZEV and thats what I checked when I mailed the application in and didn't have any problems. Took about three weeks from the time I mailed the app to receiving the stickers. Rob

 

Under California CARB standards, which are the relevant ones to the California HOV program, the Prius is classified as AT-PZEV.
An Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions vehicle, by definition, must:

• meet Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle standards (SULEV)
• have zero evaporative emissions
• have a 15 year/150,000 mile warranty on emissions technology (and so certain items in the Prius warranty are covered longer if you buy your car in California), and
• contain technologies certified to be progressive toward zero emissions.

 

John you might know this, when was the AT-PZEV classification written?

 

I'm not sure about the written date.

It was enacted in 2003... which was a little frustrating. Bacause I bet the Classic Prius would have fit the criteria. But recertifying a vehicle already in production is not a practice that automakers follow, especially with the warranty difference in this case. So the HSD later that year was the first Prius to proudly display the AT-PZEV rating.
