Is it worth it to get the Prime without garage to charge it?

And with a 2014? Probably still have nibs on the tires, lol. And giving up spare, rear wiper, reduced hatch volume, nixed 2nd glove box and so on? I would sit tight.

Too: the thought of a decision driven by government handout grates. Just has a Pied Piper feel to it.

It can be.
With the federal kickbacks a Prime can be as cheap as the regular G4, and some people prefer the looks of the vehicle.

More importantly, if you live where there are chargers available for public use, or work where you can get permission to charge at work then it can be more than 'worth it.'

.....just make sure that you have permission to use whatever outlet that you plug in to.

Tax credits alone are enough saving versus a new liftback Prius. But, you can also drive more efficiently in a Prime because of the use of the larger battery capacity. If you have a hilly or mountainous terrain, you can capture more EV range going done hill. The more downhill drives you have, the more EV miles you can capture than a normal Prius because it has more battery space to go fill. Also, the Prime has a Charge Mode that will allow you to use the engine to fill the battery to get more EV miles. It works well if you are at highways speeds often and have to use the engine anyway. If you are using the engine anyway, why not charge up most of the battery too! With more opportunities to capture more EV miles, which will increase your overall gas mileage, you will get better gas mileage than a regular Prius even without plugging the car in.

That's pretty much what we did to get into our 2010, to try to justify it: our son got our previous vehicle. Well, money did change hands too, but a good deal.

Maybe your town has some free charging stations? Although my apartment complex doesn't have charging, I live within 2 miles of almost 60 free charging stations.

 

I live in a condo and don't know if I'll be able to talk the board into accommodating my desire to charge in our shared garage. Buying the car anyway and making mental notes where I can charge for free.

 

You still have network to charge and even without option to charge at your place you should move to place where you can rent garage and one with electric that will on 8 Amp setting do just fine...you are not trying hard enough to have good thing like plug in

My 35 mi. commute home on HV only, I'm averaging 60+ mpg and charging at home only, I'm averaging 103 mpg daily. So, if you are looking for a new car, the Prime is a great deal. The tax incentives make it even better.

 

It is the best car to be next project....imagine in 5+ year's possibility to go 70-100 miles on EV alone..and used parts that will be easy to obtain from engines to transmission....Prius are all over the US

I don't have mine in the garage, but plugged it into the house and it works fine. Also, ask work if you can plug into a nearby regular outlet, you don't need a level 2 if you are there 5-6 hours.

 

If the 2014 is going bye bye either way, the only reason not to get the Prime over a gen4 is you; want a rear bench seat, want more cargo room, want a spare tire, or prefer the gen4 looks. In all other ways, they are the same car.

 

The more I read and learn about this car the more I think Toyota could have priced it significantly higher and still sold a boat load.
Don't tell them though.

They tried that with the PiP.
A higher price would likely shift some sales back to the Prius. That may help Toyota on profits, but not on ZEV credits.
