Is 2016 gen 3 "after the fix" for head gasket issues?

I know I've read this and have searched but couldn't come up with info. My 2012 pretty much died...270K and have the p0301 misfire. Mechanic put a scope in cylinder and says it appears to be cracked....

Anyway, I have a line on a 2016v with 122k miles. Are these supposedly better???

    Thanks..

A 2016 v wagon is still gen3. If you believe in Mendel's egr theory causing all things bad in a gen3, then you are hosed with a 2016 v. If you are more aligned with professional mechanics at Toyota and other wisemen of the internet, one might take solace in the fact the 2016 v has revised pistons and rings plus it was not part of the brake booster program.

Any used car is worth a dealer pre-purchase inspection with particular focus on maintenance records, the engine and a thorough front to back review.

Better for piston rings, but same EGR, and still prone to head gasket failure, my 2 cents.

Thanks for the info. On a completely unrelated note or sort of related, I used a small bottle of k seal and it worked great.

Sealer clearly means head gasket failure which will come back. Maybe with strange overheating symptoms.

How long can it last? I am still losing coolant, but it is running fine.

Not much longer if you are still losing coolant

What preventative maintenance should be done religiously to prevent blown head gaskets and gaining brake booster/accumulators?

For the brake booster I’m not sure anything much; Toyota sold a failure prone product. Tri-yearly brake fluid replacement “might” help.

for the head gasket, I’m betting on 50k carbon clean outs, for the full path of the EGR circuit, that’s all the EGR components and the intake manifold.
