Ipod Interface for 2010 Prius II

I believe that to be the case as you select the SAT channel to use the Ipod with the interface. I have a model II and the factory interface where the IPod goes in the glove box and you can control the IPod from the head unit and steering wheel.

However, IMO, unless you have little music on your IPod or you are willing to work from play lists, it isn't worth the trouble or expense. I have 6,000+ songs on my Ipod and maneuvering using the car controls is a PITA. I'd rather use the control wheel on the IPod. Much quicker and easier. I use a Belkin connector that uses the line in from the IPod connector at the bottom of the IPod and charges the IPod at the same time. Better audio than using the headphone jack.

Use:

Belkin : Auto Kit for iPod w/ Dock Connector

and

a standard 3.5mm audio cable that connects from the Belkin unit to the aux in port in the car.

Works great.

 

Yes, you can even get one with a remote control to do next previous song.

Or your can come to the dark side and replace the head unit. It will improve the sound and give you a better ipod interface. There are many threads here with good units from jvc, eclipse, kenwood, and pioneer.

 

I strongly suggest NOT getting the integrated kit, especially if you have a later iPhone or iPod touch. The factory integrated kit has a horrible interface and 'locks down' your iPhone/iPod touch/iPod so you can't navigate with the unit, and then you have to attempt to find a song in a very unorganized manner. If you are a playlist person, it would work minimally but I don't really use playlists. Also, due to Toyota not updating the kit, it doesn't have the latest type of cable that fully supports authentication, so you can't charge a later iPhone or iPod touch. They will attempt to sell you a $50 adapter if you want to make that work that but Griffin makes one that goes for around $16 on Amazon (Griffin Charger Converter).

I ended up just using a USB charger plus the analog cable with my iPhone.
