I am going to pick up a Prius around Oct, 2009 and after I heard there will be an Iphone App for the Prius, I bought myself an Iphone 3gs. I saw thread about the app in July and it said it will be available in August, but didn't say August of what year. I hope they are not talking about August 2010 or 2011.
You bought the iPhone just for that app, when you don't even know what it does? I have the 3GS as well. Apple likes to take their time in approving apps and I wouldn't be surprised if it's been rejected multiple times already.
I just don't see what the app could do. Unless we have some magical wifi interface in the car that we don't know of! It'd be cool if they did some real awesome app that could be plugged into the OBDII port!
I thought it was determined that it wasn't much more than a mobile version to view the prius info that is on the toyota wedbsite? Maybe I read it wrong?
Two different things. One is a mobile web version (already accessible on the iPhone) and the other is an actual iPhone app that you download from the iTunes store.
What is the app supposed to do??! Aside from tell you about the Prius, does it actually DO something?
I have a feeling the APP isn't going to do anything too special. Maybe you'll be able to access your service records off of their website in a slick interface. Keep track of your mileage (tons of apps that do that already). Let's all put our collective minds together and guess what the app is going to do. As an aside, there was a neat app from USAA bank that allows you to deposit a check with the iPhone. I opened an account there just because of that cool feature.
Prius Team says....they don't know. Could be any day, or it might be a while. And they don't know what it'll do....to keep checking iTunes.
If they submitted it to Apple it could be caught in the approval process. I've noticed some companies releasing press statements when they submit the app. Probably to put some pressure on Apple to approve it and to do so quickly. Hey, it could still come out tomorrow, right?
