If this is completely false its a lot worse than just misleading. Signs of our times I guess.
"As many as 20,000 Toyota Prius owners have had electric power system failures after the company recalled their vehicles in 2014 and attempted to remedy a safety defect by modifying software."

Just read the article. "As many as 20,000 Toyota Prius owners have had electric power system failures after the company recalled their vehicles in 2014 and attempted to remedy a safety defect by modifying software. The disclosure was made by a Toyota executive during testimony in a high-stakes, two-month-long civil trial that had closing arguments Monday in Orange County Superior Court in Santa Ana. The jury of seven men and five women is scheduled to begin deliberating on Tuesday."

It should be possible to verify what was stated in a court action. The Toyota executive certainly isn't going to say that in a court if it isn't true. And the LA Times is generally reliable source of such clearly verifiable information.

you can find a number of articles, but they're all copies of the original. i forget who wrote it (maybe c&d)
but the quote in the courtroom was something like, 'we have had 20,000 defective inverters returned for the recall'.
and the 'journalist' chose to twist those words to sound like the all were towed in DOA.

anecdotally, we have seen a couple breakdowns reported here, (both before and after the recall) but a large number of members taking in their perfectly fine prius for the recall. and a few strange stories after the recall.

Someone, I think @ChapmanF , noted there is confusing instruction in the original recall; leading to misapplied software patches in some cases.

a successful court case does not always add up to right and wrong unfortunately. it is often just opinion based on available evidence.
toyota exec did not say that, LA times has committed perjury out side of the courtroom

a little searching will find his exact quote ;)

I didn't realize that the LA times publishes "under oath" hence can commit perjury. :)
