Interior lighting and rear hatch interior lighting????

its def. helps more than the stock lighting.

I was hoping to see an overhead light installed in the rear or two side lights. The install will not be hard but I would like to see fixtures that someone may have added.

i've seen someone just cut into their headliner and install another factory dome light..

 

I will probably do that but I want a small dome light fixture. Might check around on ebay. Can't figure out why Toyota did not move that light more toward the rear of car. Oh well, not a big deal. Got my automatic headlights working and I felt that was a big deal to leave off the car.

thats a smart idea of cutting out the headliner and putting a new dome into it. i might do that. time to look at ebay

I just installed an overhead light in the hatch area. I connected it to the small light on the side so it works with it. The light I used is a dome light I bought at a local salvage yard. I got 2 for $4. It puts out plenty of light in the hatch area and has a switch to turn it off if I want. A very simple fix.

 

the only thing thats stopping me from doing this is how to attach the new dome light.

how did your dome light secure to the roof liner??

 

Here is a photo of the extra light I have. You can see the 2 screws that hold the light in place. I used a flare nut behind them.

 

so you just screw the base plate into the roof liner?

 

Thats what I did. If it gives any problems i'll keep you posted. It has only been installed a couple of weeks. Here is 1 more photo that shows location better

 

i doubt it will give problems. unless of course somebody starts pulling down on it. thanks for the tip

 

Since I bought 2 of these ( thinking of having spare parts ) I may install the other one about mid way and connect it to the front dome light. That way they will match and I will have more light in the rear. This is not a high priority though since i am the only rider 99% of the time.

 

another question. how did you wire the light you installed? and how did you run the wires to there?

 

I took the rear side panel off and spliced into the wires on the side hatch light and ran themup along the edge of the rubberstriping to the top .. It is easy to push the wires inside the trim and over head panel out of sight.
