im doing a headlight restoration and I'm wanting to install hids at the same time I'm ordering from ddm DDM Tuning: HID and LED Lighting My question is I want the h4 high low kit correct? Not interested in hearing about light scatter or cut off at this time Thanks!
How about hearing that after market HIDs generally tend to be much less reliable than OEM ? How about hearing that if the HID is a higher wattage bulb, it might melt your housings ?? How about hearing that you probably would be MUCH better off overall with just a brighter version of the bulbs you presently have ??? Probably not.
35W HID kit has not hurt my lamp housings in any way. There are good kits, and there are iffy kits. I think I got lucky, my beam pattern didn't change notably, I don't get flashed, and they've been in service for a couple years now. I bought a 4300K color, 35W H4-3 (hi/low) system, and it's been rock-solid. I had strong reservations for a long time before installing mine, and haven't been sorry. Many of the "higher output" and "55W = 85W" halogen bulbs are just as questionable as the worst HID retrofits. The "SilverStar" halogen bulbs we have available in the US are NOT the same as the SilverStar bulbs in Europe (which ARE better). There are moments I almost fall for the desire to have more foreground illumination, especially when I compare to newer cars w/ their OEM lights. But then I remember how it felt driving my old Celica w/ E-code Hella's freshly installed. I could see *everything*, while having so much LESS glare & foreground light. It was much more relaxing with the better lights, I didn't have to concentrate as hard. The beam pattern in these Classic Prius is the same E-code pattern I fell in love with then.
Just installed them using How to install HID/LED Bi-Xenon on Gen 1 2002 Prius | PriusChat It was a big job(for me) and involved removing the whole fuse box took about 4 hours including the headlight restoration (I took out the headlamp assembly's) Had the lights on for an hour nothing melted! No lighting report it's still daylight over here lol
New lights are a night and day difference (harhar) I'll try to get some pics up for y'all it's so much less stressful driving at night now cut off is sharp I actually bought the 55w ones and am happy to report there are no issues with heat or anything
Big difference here is the picture to back it up this is a must do mod imo if you do any rural driving at night Next step is to disable the drls hopefully this saturday I'm debating adding a switch under the hood to turn them on and off I really could not be any happier with how it worked out
That looks like a lot of glare, almost like a picture of highbeams. Everything is lit up, even far down the road, where a cutoff would have prevented the light shining. I'd hate to be in an oncoming car from the other direction.
Both pictures before and after are high beams on I can get a low beam pic for you tomorrow cut off is sharp I drive 2 hours through mountain passes every night not one person has flashed me
