Hey everyone. I've been lurking for a few months and thank everyone for your wealth of knowledge and help. Almost on a whim, I bought my Gen 1 in September with 194,000 on it. It wasn't until I owned the car for a week that I discovered what will be a life-long affair! My learning curve has been extreme, but so satisfying. The car had a check engine light when I bought it, but based on the dealer records, I pretty much knew it was a stuck catalytic valve. I fixed it, changed all the fluids, new tires, programmed and connected a SGII and now want to share a milestone with you all. So let the pics speak for themselves as of today!! ...and thanks again.
SWEET! Way to go on the diagnosing what the engine light may have been and fixed it. Hopefully you got a better deal on the car. Sounds like a win-win. TomK
I almost felt guilty since the dealer quoted 1900 for the front half of the cat and I ended up making the deal for 2200 on the car. I also fabbed a custom trailer hitch and have towed a single jetski with it. I won't make a habit of towing with it, the original purpose was for the aluminum cargo carrier, a great setup.
I bought mine this past summer with 175,000 miles on it. I am glad I am not the only one who found a great deal on a well kept high mile gen 1. What did you do to unstick the cat valve?
I had the benefit of a car lift, so it's much easier. I moved the heat shield out of the way, disconected the vacuum line, sprayed it with PB blaster and started working the arm back and forth until it was smooth. Lubed it with oil and reconnected the line. It's much more difficult to access it if the car is on the ground. Drive on ramps would be the ticket.
Congrats. I have pics of rolling over 100k, 200k and 300k! Will be posting pic of 1/3 million soon! Good luck.
