The article states the actual crash tests are based on 2016 model. See the post below that shows another YouTube video in which the narrator says IIHS considers that the Prime will preform the same as the standard Prius. Looks like all the crash tests were either 2016 or 2018 Prius, unless I missed something. I guess they didn't want to destroy a Prime. I can't blame them.
In the linked video at around 2 minutes he says that IIHS considers the Prime structurally the same. I guess the additional battery weight doesn’t effect the results? I wonder if the Primes headlights would score higher though?
Under the Headlights section, compare the Technical measurements for this test figures for the Prime against both headlight variants of the regular Prius. The Prime's measurements are different than both regular Prius version measurements, so it appears that they didn't just copy over headlight numbers from one model to the other.
Maybe the simple answer is that when they tested the 2016 Toyota Prius in the crash tests, the Toyota engineers tested it for the worst case scenario. IE they added the additional weight for their future planned vehicles. 3000 LB to 3500 LB is not that much different. They can add or remove ballast as required.
