I finally got my Bluetooth phone yesterday. I have it connected to the Prius. I cannot get one phone number transferred. I know I will have to do it one at a time and I have a printed guide from this forum. If I try to start a transfer from the Bluetooth, I just get the beep from the phone. If I open the phonebook menu and scroll to send and then Bluetooth, it just give me a message that the Bluetooth is busy. I have the handsfree set on. The guide I have says to scroll to Send and Select in the phonebook menu and there is only a Send. I have no coverage here at the house, so it strikes me that I may have to drive somewhere there is coverage?

Fred, I added a few words, parenthetically, to your subject line and moved your post to Audio & Electronics thinking your post will have a better chance of getting noticed. I'm sure someone will be able to help; I noticed that quite a few people here own (or have owned) V551s.

In the meantime, I can't suggest much more than to keep trying and following the guide to the letter. Hopefully, it's this guide:

Yes, Tag, I have the post above printed out. I have progressed quite a bit since I posted the original. Before getting my first entry into the Bluetooth, I called the dealer who referred me to Toyota. I have to say that Toyota was quite concerned and talked to me about this at length but were unable to solve the problem. They gave me a case number and referred me to Cingular who immediately referred me to MOTO. MOTO explained to me that they didn't make the Bluetooth connection so I would have to go back to Toyota. Toyota was great again and said they would provide all the technical details needed for the dealer to transfer the phone book and show me how. I still believe it will be one number at a time. I have to wait until tomorrow to try to go farther because I have no coverage at home and I will try to catch some early morning coolness somewhere there is coverage and install a few numbers to see if it actually works. Apparently, if there is no coverage, the Bluetooth is considered "busy". It is clear to Toyota that this is their problem. I wish they could make it so that the data entry problem could be solved and you could do a complete transfer at one time. I spent the better part of the day on this and still have hours of data entry ahead of me.
Thank you for your attention to this and the needed switch. I chose the forum too quickly and couldn't figure out how to include the info you added after I had already posted.

See, that sounds pretty strange to me because I bought a Sony T68i for the sole purpose of phonebook entry transfer. As you may recall, my carrier is Verizon and I have a V710 which, of course, has no phonebook transfer functionality with the Prius whatsoever.

The T68i was purchased used off ebay and the original owner had AT&T as his carrier. The phone had an old SIM card in it which worked fine. I loaded a bunch of names and numbers into the phonebook and, voila, I was able to get all of them transferred to the car in one fell swoop (i.e. no one entry at a time stuff).

So, it's weird that the "no coverage" results in "Bluetooth being considered busy" because my T68i isn't even activated! A bit of a mystery there.....

What can I say? I agree. Also, Toyota/Denso could have solved a lot of problems here by just designing a system that allowed users to enter contacts manually. Full Bluetooth transfers are swell but there are way too many protocols and profiles which manufacturers can include or exclude at will AND which (some carriers, which shall remain nameless) can disable.

I finally got my info entered after two calls to Toyota and one each to Cingular and Motorola and the dealer. I must say for the benefit of members of PriusChat, that Toyota was outstanding on both calls. All the others were as well but Toyota and LetsTalk.com really left a good taste in my mouth for this whole transaction. I had read praise for LetsTalk in this group and that's why I went to them in the first place. I found out two interesting things while talking to Toyota. First, there have been no TSB's issued concerning the stall issue. At least that is what was said. Secondly, although Toyota is a separate entity from LestTalk, they established them as an aid for Toyota customers. I can tell you from first hand experience they also instilled into the reps at LetsTalk the same level of customer focus that Toyota itself has championed for quite a time.

Now for the problem I was having. I mentioned one above already. Whether it is supposed to or not, when there is no coverage, the phone tells you that Bluetooth is busy. The main problem was with the list below which shows up on the web site above referred to by Tag.
    1. Open Menu
    2. Toggle to contacts Icon and select
    3. Highlight contact you wish to transfer
    4. Open phone book menu
    5. Scroll to Send and select
    6. Select Bluetooth
    7. Select Bluetooth Handsfree
When #2 says to toggle to contacts icon, I could find no icon. I finally deduced that since I had to highlight a contact, I would enter the phonebook. With the phonebook entered, I could not for the life of me determine how to perform #4 since I already had the phonebook open for the addresses. I accidently hit the little squiggly thing at the top of the phone in the middle and wola!! there was the menu. It was a piece of cake after that.

I offer these boring details in case anyone else is considering the V551. It is a great phone although I am not happy with the coverage. And the directions on the web site referred to are very good if not in my case, excellent.

Thank you TAG! I got the Verizon E815 then found the T68i on Ebay just like you did and voila! My phonebook transferred... It works!

What number at Toyota can you call for help? I've tried calling Letstalk and Motorola, and they both say it is a Toyota problem. I have a V551, and cannot tranfer the phonebook even one at a time. It keeps telling me it is busy, when my coverage is at full bars. I tried to search for a phone number for technical service at Toyota, but haven't had any luck. Thanks.

Go to the web site mentioned by Tag way up. Look at that and pay attention to my post above listing 7 steps that I finally cleared up and you should be able to enter one at a time. The V551 is great once you get it in. Then you can set the one touch buttons, etc.

Plus, the Toyota number is readily available in the manual as I recall. What they did for me is make sure the dealer scheduled a session with me wherein they would show me step by step how to do it. By that time, an hour or so later, I had figured it out.

    Fred,

Thanks for the reply. I tried your steps outlined - and kept getting Bluetooth busy. I also checked the website above, no phone number listed, and those steps were similar to yours and resulted in the busy notation. Frustrating. I haven't found a phone number to contact, even in my manual. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I did have trouble with a busy reply, but only when the connection was poor. Try going to a place where you have at least 3 bars of coverage at worst.

Well, I've tried everything - at 5 bars. I still get Bluetooth busy. Talked to Toyota who referred me to the dealership. Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and go down there. I'm not impressed with this system.

I think you will be impressed once you get it going.
