Hello friendly Americans, Would any of you be willing and able to purchase and send me a Coastaltech EV mod,. Coastaltech doesn't serve Canadians and I don't want to install an ev mod the hard way. I can pay you via paypal. I'm sure we can arrange terms that you will be comfortable with. Thanks
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Fibb222 @ May 10 2007, 03:54 PM) </div> Are you sure you want to buy from Coastaltech? They are getting trashed on the PC forums....
From what I've read Coastaltech has great products, just sometimes you won't get your purchase for a period of time. My assumption is that this is obviously a smaller business and perhaps they don't have stocks of these components lying around. However, if you do purchase from them and are patient you'll receive a great product.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(apriusfan @ May 10 2007, 05:15 PM) </div> Yeah I noticed they haven't responded to any of my emails. Why advertise a support email address if you don't bother responding to it? Anyway, if there was another company providing an ev mod similar to that one.... I really like the idea of their product - way simpler to install. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(kdk84 @ May 10 2007, 05:53 PM) </div> Great products perhaps, but alas, not for Canadians. Free trade my butt!
Fibb222 , if a very nice person will help, i also want to get coastal's EV mode and the always on cigarette lighter mod. I'll also pay with paypal.
For a simple question, I can't believe no one has stepped in to help versus bash Coastal.... I would, but I'm heading out of the country shortly and the parts would arrive here and just sit so it wouldn't work well for you... DjEZ, you can easily create your own power on cigarette lighter. All you need is a 20 gauge wire, or there abouts, that is long enough to go from the fuse box to that power outlet. That, and a couple taps, as shown below. CoastalDave, on his website, has been kind enough to lay out how the do this modification and what wires to tap into.. I have an old Coastal EV mode that I would give to either of you if you wanted it as I have installed the JDM one. But, it's missing the pin that plugs into the Hybrid ECU. From reading various threads, there are spare pins elsewhere in the car but I can't remember if there is a spare one of these types of pins. If you come across some thread that tells wherer to find the right pin, then just PM me and I'll send it to you. Cheers,
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(bobc @ May 11 2007, 06:14 AM) </div> Thanks for the offer, but what is the JDM one. And from the attached photo you provided are you saying that a person could make the coastal mod themselves?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(DjEZ @ May 10 2007, 10:18 PM) </div> hmm I don't think we are going to get a volunteer.... know anybody in the family with a US address? Oh, hey I just thought of something. My father in law is going to Tuscon this summer. Perhaps I can have this thing sent to his Sister's.
Fib, perhaps I got a lemon, but the Coastal EV mod is not working much anymore. I'd say it engages once out of ever 15-20 attempts. I might replace it with the High-beam mod even though I don't like the idea of flashing my brights to turn it on. The service I received from Coastal was actually reasonable, though I might have just been lucky.
Those "EV" mode pins are in the headlight plug below the steering column. Just remove the cover (maybe 2 screws?), it splits in a top half and a bottom half. Access the only thin plug there that runs the headlights. The plug itself is a bit fragile, but carefully undoing its tabs and such you can access the inside of the plug, slip a couple of pins out (several without wires attached to choose from), and away you go. Sorry I don't have the instructions with pics handy...I'm at work (but not really 'working') and the document is at home. I had the headlight flasher EV mode but changed it to a separate momentary button to the left of the steering wheel in the empty knock-out panel. Much better than the headlight flasher...just not as "invisible' to the naked eye.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(tripp @ May 11 2007, 10:20 AM) </div> Maybe you should try re-tapping the wires, if possible.
Guys - I'd be happy to give you a hand here, if this is the way you want to go, and you don't mind waiting for what could be a VERY long time. I'm heading out of town right now for the weekend. But drop me an email, and I"ll see what I can do. Email is in my sig. Please don't PM, or no Coastal for you! All that said... all of this stuff is really easy to do on your own!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(darelldd @ May 11 2007, 12:59 PM) </div> Whoo hoo! Hey what happened to your awesome avatar? It was the best one on here. EDIT: oh nevermind, there it is. I'll email you. Thanks
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Fibb222 @ May 11 2007, 09:17 AM) </div> There are ways you can DIY an EV switch. They are in the Knowledge Base here on Prius Chat. But you cannot make the Coastal mod yourself, because it actually contains some active electronics which distinguish between a brief pull on the c/c stalk and a 3-second pull-and-hold of the c/c/ stalk. The device passes the former to the c/c-cancel actuator, and passes the latter to the EV actuator.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(DjEZ @ May 10 2007, 10:18 PM) </div> DjEZ - If you want in on the action NOW is the time to let me know. I'm going to place the order this afternoon (about four hours from now). My email is in my sig... please don't use PM. I hope to hear from you soon because I don't want to place more than one order.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Fibb222 @ May 11 2007, 09:17 AM) </div> The JDM one is the button I told you about. It's the actual Toyota EV button found on non-NA Priuses.
