Hi I’m new here, and have a 2015 Toyota Prius 4 hybrid and I’m having a hard time understanding the locking and unlocking of the doors. I have keyless entry. And when I push the little lines on the door it locks but when I open the other doors to check they unlock. How do I fix this? It’s like every time I hit the button on my fob it’s locks but than unlocks if I open the doors to check

The unlock sensor is behind the front doors so if you pull any one of the front door handles, the car will unlock as it's supposed (part of the Smart Key Entry system). The lines on the top of the door is for locking only.

If you're doing the "lock check" like some people would in older cars, you have to do it fairly quickly after locking the car.

3 seconds on my Prius. After that I can unlock it.

You can check if the doors are locked, by leaving your key 10 feet away from you car, then walk back to the car and check if it's locked. If the key is on you, it'll unlock if you put your hands on the handle

Does it unlock even if you try a rear door handle?

The Prius driver's door has smart-key door handle with lines on it. The front passenger side door has smart-key door handle with lines on it as an option (it depends on which Prius trim you bought). The rear two doors shouldn't have a smart-key door handle.

    • You can lock all doors by touching the lines on the smart-key door handle with your keyfob in proximity.
    • You can unlock all doors (or a single door) by pulling on the smart-key door handle with your keyfob in proximity. My driver door unlocks only the driver door by default. My passenger door unlocks all doors by default.
    • Pressing lock on the keyfob locks all doors by default
    • Pressing unlock on the keyfob once unlocks the driver' s door by default.
    • Pressing unlock on the keyfob twice unlocks all doors by default.
You can reconfigure the default functionality of whether it does one door or all doors using Toyota Techstream.

After pressing lock on the keyfob, you can check if your doors are locked in three ways:
    1) Pull the handle on any rear door to see if it is locked
    2) If you are at the smart-key handled front door, simply check if it is locked by relocking it again by touching the striped lines. You simply relock to confirim that it is locked. There is no real way to check from the front other than locking it again. You can try looking through the window. But you will get used to it in the end.
    3) Press the lock button of the keyfob again if you didn't hear the beep.

The moral of the story is to just lock it again.

Some models will unlock from all 4 doors and some will not.

The OP needs to learn to trust the single beep that occurs when the doors lock.

Using only one finger to pull from the rear end of the handle works to check from the front, at least sometimes. Any fingers near the middle of the handle will make it unlock.

Think you mean try to open? Test with a rear door.

Touching the lines on the driver handle opens the driver door. Clicking the remote entry twice opens all doors.

Different models are probably different, but on my Vanza...
    - Grab driver's door handle, driver's door unlocks
    - Continue holding driver's door handle for a few seconds, all doors unlock
    - Grab rear door handle, all doors unlock
    - One press of unlock button on fob, driver's door unlocks
    - Two presses of unlock button on fob, all doors unlock
    - One press of lock button on fob, all doors lock

I use Carista to customize the lock/unlock settings when shifting into/out of Park
