Hello friends, I am a mechanic in a workshop here. We changed the head gasket of the car. After changing the head gasket, the Ready light comes on and as soon as it comes on, it goes off immediately. The engine does a little work and then it shuts down immediately. There is no fault code on the computer. I can't find the problem. The car is left in my possession. Can you please help? What could it be?

    Car is prius V

Before we took the car apart, it has a mis fire only i checked the chain twice and it's correct.

I just saw something like this: the big hybrid battery icon on the screen was flashing red

If it’s like that there should be code(s). Change/Update code reader.

Did you disconnect the orange hv disconnect and fail to do the second slide to engage it?

Second, many standard scanners can’t read all hybrid codes.

I'd double check the hybrid battery pack orange safety plug grip.
A lot of people that work on these cars don't get that safety plug reinstalled all the way.
three steps: insert the plug, flip the handle, push the handle down.
There is a contact in the plug that needs to connect to the system to let it know it's plugged in correctly.

Original HV battery? Sounds to me like it's weak, doesn't have the power to start the ICE properly, and operates just for a few seconds attempting to start it. Happens frequently on older hybrid vehicles that sit with a weak battery. Use techstream for better diagnosis.

The engine spinning is just the transmission trying to start the car. If the ICE doesn't fire, the system just gives up.

Also double check all your electrical connectors, especially fuel injector and coil packs.
Traction battery may need to be recharged.
Spray some starting fluid into the air cleaner, to give it a boost. The engine behavior should change, troubleshoot from there. Old school back to basics troubleshooting - That's how you do it without computer diagnostic.;)

    Hope this helps..

jzchen's suggestion about reading trouble codes is good advice. What sort of scan tool are you using that tells you "no fault code"? There are many that simply can't show all fault codes in a Prius, and most of the time when somebody reports a "no fault code" problem here, it just means a better scan tool should be used to see what the codes are.

That way, for example, if your problem were the orange handle on the battery service plug, you would know, because that gives you fault code P0A0D. (I also think it will prevent the car going from OFF to READY at all, which is different from what you're describing.)

As Biomed01 describes, the "engine ran for a little bit" sound is usually just the cranking of the engine trying to start it (it sounds like it is running, because other cars crank at a lower speed with a small starting motor, but a Prius cranks the engine at a normal running speed). The reason the cranking is quickly abandoned is something the trouble codes usually will shed light on.

You are right. Because I checked that fuse twice and as you said, if I had not installed it, I would definitely see the code you said and I use a computer called snaptool. I will check it with Toyota Techstream on Monday, but I have no hope because I have never been able to read codes with this device before, except for sub-codes.

As you said, I sprayed this trootle body with brake cleaner spray inside, but the brake pad cleaner spray does not have time to burn inside because it starts and shuts down in such a short time that every time I press the ready button, the ready light flashes and flashes. Sometimes it remains fixed on the zero screen, but the engine still does not start.

So what can I do to recharge the hybrid battery? Someone told me to apply 12 volts to the terminals of the battery for a short time and pull it out and in this way I can charge the battery a little. I don't know. He said I should do it while the fuse is in. Won't that kill me? I read 10.2 minimum voltage on the cells in the hybrid battery

Not sure if it matters, but I'd stick with throttle body cleaner.

Also, it's better to spray cleaner onto cloth or q-tips, instead of direct spray. It might mess something up if it gets sucked through, and there may be a small amount of lube on the throttle plate hinge point.

The best way to clean it I've found, is to unbolt it and lift it off (coolant hoses are long enough they can stay attached). Then you can easily access from both sides. Torque values (2 nuts, 2 bolts) are in the attached.

If it helps any I believe I did not reinstall the orange plug correctly, and the Prius would not start at all. I used TechStream ($65 plus Mongoose Pro cable) to pull the code(s), which led me directly to the plug…

OP could for starters just double-check the hybrid battery plug (aka switch?) is pushed home correctly, without waiting on Techstream acquisition.

First thing you need to do is verify the hybrid battery total and module voltages. Based on what you have told us, most recommendations are guesses. Diagnosing the hybrid battery is relatively easy with the Techstream pc based factory scanner or with an elm327 Bluetooth enabled Dr Prius app which is good for battery verification.

Others in your situation have found disconnected sensors, the orange plug or pcv hoses as the root cause.

If the car was running before the head gasket and the car was not out of service for months, the hybrid battery is rarely bad (needing replacement) after a repair. If you had one of the simpler connector or hose issues and attempted a start 25 times, it is possible to discharge the hv battery.
