Hybrid Water Pump Recall

    Error code P0A93 - Inverter Coolant Pump failure

    Got the issue diagnosed at a shop yesterday. We did some research and found the C0U recall. Turns out the previous owner had the part replaced in 2013, so Toyota refuses to honor the recall again, and I'm expected to pay to replace what is clearly a faulty part.

    Do I have any recourse?

    You think from 2013 to 2023 a part will not fail on a car? How is it faulty if it worked for 10 years

    Clearly? It lasted ten years, that's a pretty good lifetime for a plastic pump which is active the entire time the car is running. Stop whining, buy an OEM one (from a dealer directly or by mail, $150?), and change it yourself. It isn't hard and there are instructions on this forum for doing so.

    These pumps are available at very reasonable prices from many online Toyota dealers. I DO NOT recommend purchasing a $40 pump from ebay, as it probably won't last a year.

    There are many videos available online that show how to DIY this job. I normally do it by removing the driverside headlight. You can turn this from a $700 dealer repair into a $140 DIY job. Taking my time, shooting the breeze with a friend and with a beer in one hand, this job is about 45 minutes.

    This pump really should be considered a regular maintenance item and proactively replaced every 80-100k miles (or 8-10 years I suppose). Having five Gen 2s in the family, I keep new ones on the shelf, ready to go.
