Can anyone tell me the model of the hybrid trans-axle in a 2007 Toyota Prius 2nd Gen? I have searched google, duckduckgo, bing, and come up with everything but what I look for. Thanks folks for your patience.

It's the p112 and it has a chain most CVTs have a chain or a belt that may be made out of metal mesh.

Most "normal" CVTs have 2 adjustable pulleys with some kind of "belt" between then. Changing the width of the pulleys is how the drive ratio is changed.

The Gen2 Prius trans does have a chain, but it's just to transfer power. The CVT part is the planetary gearset with its 3 elements - ICE vs MG1 vs MG2.

Inspection of the mechanical parts of a Prius transmission will reveal no variable-ratio parts at all. In order to see how the Prius transmission is a CVT, one has to zoom out and see the inverter and HV control ECU as integral parts of it, where the varying of ratio is done by varying the width and timing of electrical pulses.
