So, Last Thursday I had a complete Hybrid system failure 200 miles from home in my 2011 Prius. I was able to limp to a Toyota dealer in Staunton, VA. They pulled codes P0A94, and P324E. Told me the Hybrid mechanic was on vacation and would return Monday. Damn it! I rented a car and drove home. This morning they called about 9:00 and informed me my car was ready. Everything was covered by warranty (TSB003616). The invoice I received was not very informative. They installed 04899-47021, transistor kit, 04899-47060, plug kit, 08826-00100, seal packing, and some grease, and coolant. They told me the work was warranted for 12K miles or 12 months. Is this right? Seems to me everything hybrid related should still be covered to 80K miles. Also I'm wondering if the issue has been resolved with the new transistor kit, or can I plan on this reoccurring in another 60K miles or so? And, I'm wondering if I can get Toyota to reimburse me for car rental expense. Any thoughts?
Seems to me that you should be right. A warranty repair, with a short warranty on said particular repair, should not shorten the original warranty. Perhaps the repair is has its own separate 12/12 warranty even if the original warranty had less than 12/12 remaining?
Count your blessings and be happy. Toyota repaired it all under warranty/recall and you have a car with all new parts. You really can't predict the future, but I would bet you won't have the same issue again.
Thank you for the post. Not sure we've if we've heard a similar incident before. It's worth a try with Toyota USA on rental fees...not sure what their policy is. At least you could tell us their response for future reference.
