My HV battery temp gets around 104-107F after a while. Fan is usually only on 1-3, but I often crank it up to 6 with my Hybrid Assistant app. It will MAYBE go down a degree or so over the course of 10 minutes. It's basically un-noticeable. I can hear the fan at each different speed and I can feel the air moving. It seems to be working fine (moves a lot of air on 6). Just wondering if this is normal or if it requires further inspection.
If the interior car is warmed up w/heater, and battery is 104, it's pulling hot air to cool down 104.
I think you're ok. For sure periodically check the fan and ductwork for dust build-up. Once you've done it once or twice you can gauge how often it's warranted. For another data point: when I was monitoring ours (with ScanGauge), I can recall driving home, eastbound on the Barnet Highway (between Burnaby and Port Moody). It's a coastal highway, 80 kmh limit. The car was fully warmed up, cool evening, light traffic, just steady driving with the cruise control set. The battery would be around 35F, with fan speed maybe 2.
Eddie, The hybrid assistant app should also give you a live display showing what your charge limit and discharge limit is for the battery. If I remember right the max is about 25kw. When HV battery temps are either abnormally high or low, the HV ecu will reduce those numbers based on how high or low. What is your app showing?
I keep my car interior around 70F. I should add that a few times while it was cold out I rolled down my rear passenger side window and decreased the fan intake temperature dramatically with very little effect. Battery has been running closer to 100F lately it seems. Not really worried about it per se, but still curious about fan effectiveness. Do you guys get movement on your battery temps when you crank the fan? Thanks for the responses.
