Hummer getting new life

Yeah I heard about this a few weeks ago. It would give legs to the notion of killing off their smaller cars. Smaller car death also included the demise of gm's small PHEV, the volt.

Could GM Bring Hummer Back as an Electric SUV Brand?

It's one thing to build an electric vehicle, & quite another, if you have little to no infrastructure to get them around the nation conveniently.

 

Big enough to hook up a trailer and generator for portable charge station

 

With the success of the Wrangler(will get a PHEV), and soon release of the Bronco(hybrid option), bringing back the Hummer name could be a good marketing move. I doubt anything bearing the Hummer name now will be of the excess of the H2. I liked the H1, but it was a high priced niche vehicle that worked for that niche. The later models were just typical full frame SUVs with different bodies.

For those that can't wait for a Hummer BEV; HOME - BOLLINGER MOTORS

They can keep their simplistic box on wheels.

The Rivian looks a lot better and has a better price point with better range.

The R1T might replace our Prime down the road if all goes well.

General Motors (GM) will bring back its Hummer name starting in 2022, according to news reports, adding the monster truck to its GMC lineup. There will be no gas- or diesel-powered version this time, just an electric. GM will supposedly run a Super Bowl ad with NBA wizard LeBron James on Feb. 3 to announce the reincarnation.​

Reminds me of the Prius vs Hummer threads from over a decade ago:

• EV1 - crushed and gone
• Spark EV - gone
• Volt - gone
• Bolt - on life support

I'm reminded of this Jerry Clower story:

Guess I'll skip the Super Bowl this year . . . to avoid the announced commercials.

Of course the reality is it will be a jacked-up, knobby tired, Tahoe body with angular drag and noise body panels and costing I-Pace and Taycan prices ("you can get less but you can't pay more.")

We only know the name is coming back. I expect it to be sized to compete with the Wrangler and Bronco. It won't larger than the 1500 truck class. Bigger than that, and it is exempt from CAFE, which means it won't help pull up GM's average.

 

I suppose this is GM's attempt to compete with the Cybertruck?

Just like like dog poo, on the bottom of your shoe that you just can't get rid of, GM, unable to sell the Hummer line to chinese manufacturers, they just keep on trying & trying to push that thing.

GM isn't going to be taking old Hummers and converting them to EVs.

The Chevy Blazer was originally a full size SUV. Eventually, it was renamed the Tahoe. It is now back as a mid-size unibody between the Equinox and transverse. In the time period between the original and new current one, the name was used for a compact SUV.

Beyond the name likely coming back for a BEV, we know nothing about it. Assuming it will be like the FSP H2 is the same thinking that others use to prejudge the Prius.

 

The Model 3 has 1/2 a ton of batteries. So a ton of batteries might get them to 300 miles.

Counting the rear mounted spare, the H3 is 10 inches shorter than the Model X. It was about the size of the 4dr Wrangler and Mustang Mach-E.

Depending on how it is configured the Mach-E has an announced target range of 210 to 300 miles. The Model X is in the same range. I expect Hummer styling to mean inefficiency in the aerodynamics, but the Bolt isn't a slouch in efficiency; around that of the long range Model 3. So I don't expect this Hummer EV to be a FSP of an electric.

PS: It's weird that English uses shorter to describe something smaller in terms of length or height.

 

The name Trailblazer is also coming back and Chevy did use the name Monza twice, too.

 

I think Trailblazer started as a trim to the Blazer.

 

The original Trailblazer was the S10 Blazer with a different trim package, then it became it's own model. The new Trailblazer look different than the new Blazer and has a smaller engine.
