I should have known better than take the interstate during rush hour. Someone in a brand new Toyota Highlander pulled in front of me, hit the brakes & I was forced to hit the brakes & pull hard to the right. The car (2005 Salsa Red, package 4) headed for the quard rail & had to pull to left to avoid. This broke the car loose, went across 3 lanes of traffic twice without a scratch. Found my self headed again toward guard rail & this time smacked it. Most damage front end & underneath car. Estimate $9100. Can anyone out there give me some idea what to expect when I get her back. My worry is that it will not run the same, including milage. It was immaculate & has only 17,500 miles on it. This is my very first post & hope I put it in the right forum. From what I have been reading, there are a lot of you out there with great knowledge. Any thoughts on my situation? Thanks in advance

    DUDE!!! or DUDETTE! :p

I know how you feel, I crashed my 07 Touring a few days before thanksgiving. Same scenario, Interstate + Rush-hour , I slammed on my brake and just drove under a ford Taurus in front of me. I think my damage was around $9500? but I cant remember, but as far as the car running the same, its just as good a car as it was the day I drove it off the lot. w/no decrease in mileage. If you still can...try and get Toyota genuine parts. good luck with your baby.

All depends on your insurance and the crash repairer. Use only the best repairer and if you have good insurance your car will be as good as it was prior to the accident. What man made man can make again.

Thanks for the input. By the way, a gradywhite is a very well made fishing boat made in Greenville, NC. Mine just happens to be a 1986 & still going strong! State Farm, my insurer, said where I sent my car for repair is top notch. My Prius guru @ the dealership said he had his repaired same place & good as new. He should know, he is the master mechanic there. Also, am getting all Toyota parts after arguing with insurance carrier. Estimater just wrote there were no after market parts available for a Prius! Again, thanks for your comments, they make me feel a lot better than before. Still waiting to get her back, been 2 weeks all ready & looks like another 2 before it is ready. Told them to take their time & get it right the first time.

My Prius had $13,000 damage done to it when a woman ran a red light. I took it to the local Toyota dealer (largest in the state) and they did an excellent job. Not perfect but very close. It's very hard to get the paint factory perfect. I also had a leaky sensor on the tranny.

I got $2500 diminished value from her insurer by having a guy prepare a report that explains how my car will never be worth as much as a factory perfect car. And it took about 8 weeks for the work to be finished. Good luck with your vehicle.

i40 through that corridor is undesirable at rush hour, i've found myself that way a few times. sorry for your trouble.

you've got a good dealership there in town though, if we ever need warranty work for something and the dealer has to do it... we're going to our guy there.
