How to completely lock up?

With your package you must have smart key. To lock the car press the black button on the front door handles or the hatch. If smart car is turned off (the switch is under the steering column) you should be able to lock all the doors by pressing lock on the key fob. Pressing the interior lock button with a door open does sometimes unlock other things. The reason is so that you can not lock the car unintentionally. All the doors and hatch lock at the same time with SKS or the key fob, you do not have to lock anything separately.

The hatch locks with the doors. When you are "locking" the hatch, the SKS unlocks all the doors, bc they were locked to begin with. If you approach the hatch with all the doors locked, and touch the handle, it will unlock all doors. If you approach from the passenger side, also, all doors and hatch unlock. It is all explained in the manual. There is a thread that describes how to change these patterns or look in the manual.

 

Yes, it's actually in the manual how to change the unlock pattern. I almost always have a passenger, so I set mine to unlock all doors when I touch any.

One possibility for your mystery locking pattern: If you have SKS and you lock your doors by either fob button or smart button, and then walk over to another door to check whether they're unlocked, they'll unlock for you if you have the key with you... not that I think you'd be THAT silly

I check the rear doors, since they are not wired for the SKS.

Hey - - I appreciate the fact that you took the time to explain the obvious. I too, have checked my doors to see if they are locked (with the fob in my pocket) & been puzzled. WHY didn't I think to check the back doors to see if the car is locked? Mainly because I hardly ever open them in normal use?

Actually, if you lock the doors thru SKS, you can pull the front door handles within a couple seconds to check if it is indeed locked. The SKS would be inactive when it was just put into action. If you walk to the rear hatch, the couple of seconds pass, you go into a see-saw situation. Check the rear door handles if the time has elapsed, but the front doors is also OK within a couple seconds. Try it.

 

What color is the Toyota emblem on the back of your keyfob? SKS equipped cars have a silver and black emblem and non-SKS cars have an all black emblem.

 

If you want to confirm this a few times until you trust it: lock the car, put the key fob 30 feet away from the car, THEN walk back and try the doors and hatch. You will find that they are all locked.
