How solid should the center console be?

I never paid any attention to it before, but the center console on our 2007 seems a bit loose when force is applied to it side to side. It doesn't rattle noticeably when driving, or at least it isn't audible over whatever else might be shaking on a rough surface.

Not having another car for reference I thought I would ask here. Is the center console normally rock solid (no motion at all when lateral force is applied) or are they always a bit loose? Crosses my mind that maybe something/somebody smacked it hard at some point and the plastic at the base might have broken to allow more movement. Found directions for disassembly here:

but I'm not going to mess with it if "not solid" is the norm.

    Thanks.

If you grip the console firmly at the top (under the console lid) there is a little lateral movement side-to-side, but it should be firmly fixed at the base and it should be rock solid there.

The bottom is firmly attached to the floor, it won't budge in any direction there. The top moves in a manner consistent with your description.

I think what is probably happening is that because the inside of the car has been so hot lately the console plastic is a little more flexible than it was several months ago, and I'm noticing this slight change.

    Thanks for the info.
