    My prius cost more than my panels and I got package #1. For very similar reason one would get a prius, everyone on this board should seriously consider panels.

    3.3KW system. They are 20 165W shell(they sold their panel division from what I understand) panels. I never get the rated amount(max I'll get is 2.6KW in the middle of the day) due to the angle of the placement(parallel to the roof as opposed to angulated, this is of course for asthetic reasons). I would consider them so so panels. My sister who works for sunpower say their panels usually can achieve rated and often times get better than rated.

    Mine is usually an average of $55 per month, last bill was $64. We had had several weeks of over 100 degree weather! I am so happy I am moving soon!

    Burritos, what kinda inverter to you have? SunPower seems to have excellent module efficiency but I don't know much about them.

    Yes, I changed my name because I am on the job hunt! I am probably relocating back to so-cal. I have to move for health reasons, and I am real familiar with the area. I am going to check out Florida in a couple weeks, but I think that I will end up where I have some family and know the city... Too bad it's so expensive! I am hoping to be moved by the end of Sept. Thanks for inquiring! :)

    That is a lot of money! I have a 9.99kw system and with the NJ rebates the system cost me about $18,500 and it generates over 12,000 kwh per year. Add the electric savings and the sale of the SRECs (greentags) and the system pays for itself in under 4 years.

    And that covered the "fuel" for over 1,000 miles in our EV, and the electricity for our home.

    Better question: how much did you spend on electricity AND gas last month. ;)

    Wow! That's awesome and I'm jealous. Sounds like NJ has better incentives for solar. We have a net metering system here, but we don't get cash back if we make more than we consume over a calendar year. Do you get money back?

    wow. we paid $45 for electric (with AC on, it's dang hot around here)
    $30 for the prius in gas
    and maybe $100 for the camry's gas tank?

    When I installed my system the rebate in NJ was the lessor of 70% of the installed cost or $5.50 per watt. Since then it has dropped to the lessor of 60% or $4.35 a watt, still not bad. The state has mandated that power producers produce a certain percentage of their power from renewable resources, and fines then $300 per megawatt for each megawatt they miss the target by. Thus, I can sell the claim to my capacity for about $250 a megawatt per year to the utilities. Yes, we have net metering, but I don't really worry about excess, as the system only provides about 60% of our needs.

    $30 for the Prius in a month?! I spend about $150 a month on gas for my Prius alone...I was spending and average of $500 pre-Prius

    You people with the year round sunshine make me jealous. I could put in solar panels, but they'd only work about 4 months of the year. Hydroelectric is pretty big around here, and geothermal is becoming more popular. I would imagine with designs focused on long term energy consumption, instead of short term construction costs, buildings could be far more efficient and less expensive.

    That is a false assumption about solar. Solar works as well (if not better) in northern areas than in places like Florida or Southern CA. While those places get more sun they are also much hotter. The efficiency of the solar panels drops off quickly as temp rises. I had my best day of total production on a clear and sunny zero degree day February a year ago.
