I'm trying to buy pip basic with blizzard pearl color. I called several dealers to get it but some dealers asked me to pay msrp plus a couple of thousand primium. Should I pay more than msrp to get it? Thanks.
Dianne has 2 base and 2 advanced Blizzard Pearls coming in late May. I would try calling her first. http://priuschat.com/forums/toyota-...lugin-prius-available-updated-frequently.html What local dealers did you contact?
The question isn't "Should I pay more than MSRP?" If you buy one this year.....you're probably going to pay about 2K more...AT LEAST. Every time I see a TCO argument about hybrids, EVs, and PHEVS, and their opponents start scoring for points, the argument swiftly becomes one of social responsibility, where the TCO should be treated as irrelevant. Right Now...PiPs are going for MSRP++. Welcome to economics 101. Whether or not you buy one is going to be a combination of several factors. Can you afford one? How firmly do you believe that more people should be driving EV/PHEVs? Do you benefit in other ways from owning a PiP, like getting an HOV sticker? Can you wait a year or two for the supply to increase? Would a cordless Hybrid work as an alternative? Have you talked to anybody in the Volt crowd? Your call. I can answer your question very firmly and without a moment's hesitation, but that would be my answer, not yours. If you really want to see my two pennies, I'll simply say that I'd be very careful about how much of a debt load you're carrying into the next few years, but on the other hand....money is dirt cheap right now. NFCU is quoting 1.99 for up to 72 months the last time I looked...if you have a good enough credit score that is. If you don't......you have no business buying a $40,000 car. YMMV!!! Whatever you decide....Good Luck!!!
The number of choices for EVs and plug-in hybrids is increasing. If you want one right away you may have to pay up. Chances are, the price will come down once (1) the early adopters all get their PIPs, and (2) there's more competition. If you definitely don't want to pay over MSRP, you could always try leaving your phone number with the dealers and see if you get a call later on, if and when someone is ready to sell at that price. (Then be prepared to hang tough. And check this thread.)
and don't call carson, call DIANNE at carson. or pm her here. i don't know what she'll be selling them for, but in the end, you'll be a lot happier.
Something many non-Californians (maybe even non-So/Nor Cal folks) overlook also is the carpool sticker. If the choice is paying an extra $xxxx today for carpool access versus paying MSRP a year from now, then the question is, is that extra year of carpool access worth $xxxx. Some would say yes, some would say no. But I think there are quite a few PiP owners whose sole purpose in buying a PiP was for carpool access. Sadly, many dealers know this.
Don't pay over MSRP for any car. Just wait them out. Yes, Prius Plug-in is a very hot new car, but it's also a $32,000 Prius, and plenty of people can't afford it. The car **just** showed up in the US. That said, Dianne at Carson will take care of you.
I suck at price negotiation. I didn't have much leverage since this was a cancelled pre-order: - base $32,809 - protection package $4,995 I am not sure what was actually in the protection package. The car does have moldings on & around the door. I figure I paid around 5k over MSRP. I will be cancelling the warranty & maintenance (another $4089) from the dealer, and get them through PriusChat instead.
I was too eager to get the HOV sticker before it ran out to cut down on my commute time. I figured if I did not take the car, the dealer can just sell the car to the next guy in line for the same price. I may have gotten a fair deal with Andrey, but I did not know about Putnum at the time so I went to a closest Toyoto dealer in South Bay with my $500 deposit. I am back in the newbie forum to learn all about my new car...
