It’s not as steep as it seems… Toyota Canada recently change how they display pricing on the website; the $46K figure includes Freight & PDI and other fees, which were previously added on separately above the MSRP. Once you back out those $3-4K of fees, the comparable MSRP to before is is closer to $42K, which is a few thousand more than the old model (I think it was $36 or $38K? Never paid close attention to the non-Prime;)), but also comes with many more features for that money.

    Still a lot of coin though… o_O

    Pricing | Toyota Canada

Only thing confounding is the use of letters to signify levels, and no further explanation.

    upload_2023-4-22_8-53-13.png

It only goes back to 2010. I have exactly the same numbers I marked up in our2010 brochure, except pretty sure I swapped the Technology and Touring numbers. Ours is Touring, and yeah, it must have been the $31,865 figure.

Too, back then dealerships were significantly discounting the MSRP. We got roughly $2K off, plus the documentation fee waived. Out-the-door for our 2010 Touring was $33684.

hi Sarge I bought a Prius Prime Upgrade 2022 in 31 january 2022 . The price paid before provincial and federal taxes was 38 686$Cad.
Now the 2023 XSE is the model that replaces the Upgrade model . prices before taxes is 45 864$CAD
so the price went up by 7 177.75$cad before taxes

About $7,000. As @Sarge said, several provinces now require “all-in” pricing to be displayed so that includes all fees and PDI such that only tax is added. Note that some negotiable fees like dealership fees are included in that price.

Keep in mind that the Prius’ pricing has held steady (and dropped even dropped in two generations) over the last 20 years.

    2001: $29,990
    2004: $29,990 (went up to $31,280 in 2007 then $29,500 in 2008 and $27,710 in 2009)
    2010: $27,500
    2016: $25,995
2023: $36,490 (with the caveat that the base LE is not offered in Canada and AWD is standard).

Wow. My fully loaded 2018 Prius Prime Upgrade w/ Technology Package was $38,570 plus PDI ($1,400) and fees ($100 A/C excise and $25 tire and battery levy. I think doc fees were $210), less $2,000 dealer sale price, plus taxes and less $2,500 provincial rebate at that time (no fed rebate).

Just to resume my 2022 PPrime Upgrade after taxes and provincial rebates and federal rebate , out the door price was 39 000$ with 4 winter tires and steel rims.

Yes at the time, that is what I tought...love the car and it fit's my needs...but today in 2023 ,I think that the price increase is pushing me out of the Prius line .....for the future .....unless Toyota goes ahead with a full electric Prius....car...i'm not a SUV fan.

Also, trying to write in French online is a bit of PITA with autocorrect always fighting me… lol. Apologies to all of our non-French speaking friends reading this. :)

Thanks.... I must say it has been rather interesting living amongst Leafs fans with their perpetual playoff failures while rooting for the Habs who have had 3 decent runs in the last 13 years or so. ;) It does feel a bit dirty rooting for the Lightning though, and maybe Boston if they Leafs finally pull off the win... But we'll see. At least the Habs future is looking bright!

I know a little. I tend to write better since I have time to think about what I want to say :D. I didn’t know you spoke either! And we’ve been on this board for decades!

Ahh haha. I just switch the French keyboard to explicitly tell the phone what language I want to write in. Seems to work.

Nope. I’d wager the Gen 4 was the best value.
