    Hi guys.

Quick questions, as mentioned in the title...

How many miles do you get after you have filled up before the first blip has gone on the fuel gauge?

The reason I ask is because I'm currently on 80 miles and it hasn't gone down. Due to cold weather I'm only averaging 45mpg (UK) and have needed to de ice the car every morning for last couple of weeks so the engine has been on a lot.

I would've thought it would've gone down by now?

Then I would expect in excess of 100 miles.

Perhaps I should adjust. I would expect that you will have to use up 2 gallons of gasoline before the first "pip" goes away. In very cold weather this could happen in less than 100 miles.

With my "bladder" (the one in the gas tank, not the one in me), the first "pip" can go away as early as 50 miles due to an incomplete fill.

I find 160 miles is about average depending on how much you top up the tank and summer to winter differences. I have gone 184 miles before the first blip goes out.

Around 150 for me. Always makes me think I will be able to do 1000 miles on a tank, but I get closer to 500 before a fill up again.

seeing this is a genII forum... you have the bladder.

in all honesty from all the data i've seen. there is no true number. sometimes it goes off when there is roughtly 2.5 or so gallons left.. and sometimes it goes off when there is only 1.3 or so gallons in there.

if you really want to know, get a scanguageII or go with the torque idea (if you have the spare time to put it all together....)

for safety, don't push your luck and fuel up when it blinks. sometimes you may have a lot less fuel in there than you think there is. hills and such can affect the readings. (depending on how steep the angles are you are driving)

i verify all my personal info with my scanguageII with xcodes.

Last summer I took a trip and the 1st blip went down at 185 miles! I could not believe it Now that it is winter time and my many short short trips, the 1st blip will happen at 65-85 miles. Also the winter blend of gas makes a difference as well as cold.

Nope, OP is from UK. Bladder is only on North American models.

The first (top) pip is highly dependent on exactly how full the tank fill really is. That is, the exact point where the pump cuts out and whether or not you keep topping off to the nearest dollar or whatever. So there's quite a lot more variability in the first pip compared with the others, but typically I get from around 150 to 250 km (95 to 155 miles). In general I find that the top pip is worth about 2 to 3 times the other pips.

No bladder for us in the UK so we can fill our cars without problems in the heat or cold. The bladder is US only I believe the rest of the world got lucky.

There are a number of other differences between UK and US Prius not all good.

I get 500 plus in the winter 600 plus in the summer. When you get used to driving the Prius your millage figures get better. This is for 45ltrs 10 gallons.

I'm in the UK as well I have never made it to 600, I usually get to around 500 and fill with 1 full pip left.

Ah that's ok then. I'm on target for around 480-500 off this tank full.

I get over 600 miles on just about every tank year round. More often than not I can manage 1000 km (621 miles) per tankful. In the three and a half years of driving it though, I've had just two tankfuls go over 1100 km (almost 700 miles).

Question to Bronze84 and Pandalover. Roughly how much petrol are you pumping in each time you fill up? I'm typically putting in about 43.5L, that's about 9.5 to 9.6 UK gallons.

Today it was 59. In the summer, usually 100+. Two weeks ago when it was colder I didn't even make it to 40! North American bladder here. Never really know.

I have no idea. Never had to put more the £60 in, but never look at the pump.
