So, I have a question that I am really hoping that someone has an answer to. My car got side swiped and, as a result, the mirror glasss shattered and the back panel fell off (this is the right side passenger mirror). However, the mirror itself is still fully functional and it's power adjusting works perfectly. It seems wasteful/ expensive to bring it to the toyota repair shop (they want to replace the whole mirror. So here is my question, if I am just installing new glass, what do I need to do about the two wires attached to the glass??? (I assume they are for the heating aspect of the mirror). Do they just unattach or do I have to rewire it like a new mirror? Any instructions on how to install/remove the glass and back panel would be AMAZING!! Thank you!

First, I doubt that Toyota will only sell you the glass part only. You certainly can try, but last time I asked (for the three screws attaching the mirror set), they said, "We only see the whole set!".
"How much?" I asked. It was around $200-$300.
Replacing is very easy for the whole set.
Replacing just the glass is not that difficult either. Many here will love to show you some instructions.
My advice is go to eBay and buy an old side mirror (from salvaged Prius, for example). And use the glass only. This will cut your cost down to less than $100. Make sure it is a heated one.

    Replacing the whole set.
    - pop the small speaker outward with your hands (perpendicularly outward).
    - you will see three screws - unscrew them (counter-clock wise) (hold the mirror while doing so)
    - disconnect wiring

    Replacing the glass.
    - push the glass lower portion inward as much as possible
    - slide the glass upward\
    - you will see two wires attaching to the glass for heating - disconnect them
    (reverse the process when installing)

Same thing just happened to me. I ordered the complete assembley from RockAuto.com for 53.00. Pulled the speaker out, loosened the three bolts and was done. Luckly the prius does not have painted mirrors as Rock Auto only provides unpainted products.

Mine does and the trademotion web site shows different colors for 2008 model as well. Maybe your painted covers fell off?

I'm having trouble following these instructions. My glass does not seem to slide no matter what I do. I'm afraid to do anything more drastic as I do not want to damage the mirror assembly. Can anyone give me more detailed instructions?

I found another set of instructions. For me, it seems that you push the top in as far as possible and use a screwdriver to pop the mirror out of a pair of bottom tabs, then just pull the mirror out of the tabs on the upper part of the mirror, and disconnect the heating wires. Hope that helps someone!

Cheers, my mirrors are fine, but we wanted the convex glass, so ordered a heated pair from here for a very low price:
    eBay My World - car-parts-market

Will hopefully have no problems putting them in :)

EDIT: hehehe, failed at the first step... I can't even see any tabs at the bottom when I push the top in as far as it can go.

    EDIT 2:
Used a torch. Definitely nothing at the bottom. When I push the bottom all the way in I can see 2 blue tabs right at the back, on the top. Three screws underneath the mirror.
No way glass is sliding out of this thing though, as far as I can tell. Different design to these mirrors?

Anyone with the same type as me able to put a video up on YouTube on how to remove the mirror glass?

Got some more info from another mirror glass supply place (in Australia), and am wondering if either of these are applicable to the Prius mirror housing:

Thanks to Ami from www.mirrors4cars.com.au for the info.

Can anyone confirm that either of these are the same for the 2008 Prius?

    Anyone?

I don't want to break anything when replacing the glass.

Using a torch seems a little drastic!

Still have this mirror glass, and can't see how to get the original glass off.

    Any help out there?

I cracked my passenger side mirror recently and a local auto body shop ordered the glass and rubber frame only - after the dealer and 2 local body shops said I'd have to replace the entire mirror assembly including working on connections inside the door panel. The Toyota Part # is 87931-47100, for "Mirror, Outer, RH".
My white cover was intact except for one clip, otherwise the assembly is fine. Maybe this wasnt available before but the $70. replacement fit my unemployed budget far better than $350 or more that it would have cost to replace a lot of what wasnt broken. Hope that helps someone else needing just the mirror. The connectors for the defroster were disconnected and reconnected to the new mirror. Not sure if they work yet but that wasnt a requirement.

'Torch' is just the British/Australian word for 'flashlight' =)
