I'm curious as to how accurate other Prius owners computer fuel economy estimates are vs. what you actually calculate at the pump.

Edited so as to not show Wolfman's ineptness at creating a poll

    Thanks Wolfman.

I've already fixed it!! :D (Danny knows what I'm talkin' 'bout)

So far my consumption computer has been about 4.5 mpg higher than what I calculate at the pump.

I've noticed a lot of owners stating that their actuals are lower than the display mpg but mine is consistently .5 mpg higher. Does this get any closer the more times you fill up and reset the display?

I'm glad Wolfman did the Poll. As far as I can see I don't have that option. I think polls are a great way to get more people interested and show meaningful data at the same time. And I too find the Yahoo site very tiresome to read.

Fred - when posting a thread, there will be an option below your message along with the Add an Attachment option to start a poll with your thread. It should be there, at least.

Yup, they are there. Setting it up is a bit vague, but still easy once this particular softwares quirks are figured out.

As time goes on, the display average and the calculated average seem to be converging. Here are the life time figures for my car after almost 6000 miles.

    Display 48.28
    Calculated 48.26

I hadn't checked my lifetime display against calculated until you posted this, Here's what I go.

    Display (5 fills avg.) = 44.3MPG
    Calc'd = 44.0 MPG

Not within 2/100 like you, but I'll take a spread of 3/10ths!

My calculated mileage is generally 1-2 miles off of the displayed mileage. Sometimes it's higher and sometimes it's lower depending on how aggressively I fill the tank. This is after 2415 miles on the car.

On the 14th tank of gas.

    overall calculated mpg 47.93
    overall displayed mpg 48.03

a tenth of an mpg difference

14th tank!! That should be almost 5000 miles, you must have a long commute or have worked in a couple long trips. I'm at 2700 miles and only about 7 tanks and have had my car since Oct. 20th. My computer isn't quite that accurate, but pretty dang close.

I’d be interested for those of you keeping records the difference in amount of gas.

For example on the last tank you know how many miles you drove and what gas mileage the car is reporting, divding miles by miles per gallon gives the amount of gas the car is reporting to of used. How does that amount compare to what your actually putting into the car?

Glad I found the survey- Thought I was going nuts.
Last tank computer showed 44 MPG and my calculation was 39 MPG or about 5 MPG overestimated. This involved hills - route 8 from Tucson to San Diego, over 100 degree weather , and some Air Conditioning.

Also had another tank that was 5 MPG overestimated on the screen.
Did the A/C and heat affect the difference that much?
