I saw a parked honda accord hybrid with HOV lane stickers. Would you call the police/dmv and report it or is this too 'green police'? I have to assume he bought these illegally (not eligible from DMV) and is taking advantage of the perks. Think of the prius driver that didnt get his stickers because of this. Can the police cite this car? What are the fines?

    What are your thoughts?

And why isn't the Accord eligible for the stickers? To get the stickers in the first place, you have to submit an application that applies to a specific group of cars. If the application was fraudulently submitted, the owner has some pretty serious problems facing them if someone turns them in.

If it's NOT A HYBRID, it does not qualify.
Take a photo showing plate, and stickers, attach a short note noting it's not a Hybrid, mail it to DMV!!!
If that upsets some folk, it upsets me more that someone thinks it's OK to take advantage of the system!!

Think about what you said... *You assume* that they were obtained illegally.

This driver has a hybrid car, and HOV stickers. The people at the DMV are not infallible...they could have made a mistake, and here you go calling this person a criminal, without all the information. The rules could also have changed slightly, and he does now qualify...

I occasionally drive my parents' car...they have handicapped tags, but I'm not handicapped. *I DO NOT* take advantage of preferential parking, but someone might see me getting out of the car and since I'm not handicapped, assume I take advantage of it, and try to make trouble for me.

Bottom line: You don't have all the information. Tread lightly.

The accord hybrid is not green/clean/efficient enough for the stickers. I confronted the guy and by his response, he knew he shouldnt have them. I called the cops and i am sure they cited/ticketed him (assuming they know how). Not sure what the fines are.

I feel like the green police from the Audi TDI commercial

I've seen these HOV stickers sold at the swap meet. I've even seen a 1990ish Ford Grand Marquis with these damn stickers. Who the hell was this guy trying to foo? The stickers were all discolored and wrinkled. I hope he gets busted.

Btw, its amazing what you can get at the swap meet. In California your restaurant is graded A, B, C, by the health department. You have to display these ratings in full view. Well at the swap meet you can by the A rating for your restaurant. Lastly, if you do come to California and you see a B or C rating, keep walking.

Thanks Chuck. Agree I dont have all the facts. It was just his back-peddling, non-confident response that added to my suspicion (he quickly walked away after the conversation). Mostly when you hear you can buy these stickers illegally on ebay or swampmeets

In any case, they expire in 10.5 months, as do all HOV stickers in CA.

I posted a photo of a Camry hybrid with stickers, with the plate number clearly readable. Not sure what happened to him for it.

Propane cars get white, not yellow stickers.

I saw a fake sticker in a big SUV with "F*** YOU" in place of the serial number. Clearly a joke.
