Interesting read. From the article it seems as though they would consider Silver Pine Mica a "silver tint" and include it in the 19% silver category.
In my observations of Prii around town (Seattle), I've seen that silver (not counting silver pine mica) is the most popular color But blue (seaside pearl) seems to be the coolest At the end of the final episode of HBO's "Six Feet Under", Claire drove off in a blue Prius Al Gore's son got busted for doing 100+ MPH in a blue Prius In Showtime's "Weeds", Nancy Botwin, the pot-dealing housewife, drives a blue Prius. And my wife drives a blue Prius B)
There really isn't any way to determine most popular color. You can't do it by what color is ordered, because not everyone orders a car. You can't do it by what color is bought, because how many cars of different colors is determined by how may are manufactured. If Toyota makes half of their cars silver then silver will be 50%, whether that is what is people's favorite color or not. For some it will simply be the color they could get. I wanted a dark blue but they didn't offer that. I wanted a gray interior but the Seaside Pearl in 2005 was not offered with gray interior. I have black with ivory. Not my first choice but that's what I bought.
I'm in complete agreement with Godiva. If the car is only available in silver, then it becomes the most popular color. I would have opted for red with a dark interior, but they don't make that combination. I'd really like a charcoal-colored interior to avoid dirt, but took the medium gray rather than beige. The choice of interior color limits one's paint color choices---even if cars are available in all combinations!
All boring. So boring I was forced to do something drastic to the Prius before I could face getting into it every day possibly for the rest of my life. Then it started . . .
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(poleikleng @ Sep 22 2007, 07:21 AM) </div> Personally I didn't have a lot of choice of colors, since I wanted 2007 off the lot with pkg 5. here were my 4 choices: 1. Silver Pine Mica with Dark Gray interior (I think the Bisque (tan) interior looks better) 2. Driftwood Pearl (gold) with Bisque (tan) interior 3. Classic Silver Metallic with Dark Gray interior 4. Black with Bisque leather, pkg #6 (price too high) (The Bisque (tan) was too light for my life style with a dog.) I originally wanted red (but just traded in our red van), my second choice was blue. Couldn’t find neither one of these color Prius’s on the lot. I'm now the owner of Classic Silver Metallic with Dark Gray interior. Glad to hear it's a hot color. Prius has very limited color coordinated combinations (outside and inside of the car), not sure why they all have to have a black dash board (even with the Bisque color). I personally I think the best color coordinated combinations are: . Classic Silver Metallic with Dark Gray interior . Magnetic Gray Metallic with Dark Gray interior . Black with Dark Gray interior . Driftwood Pearl (gold) with Bisque (tan) interior What your favorite color coordinated combinations? Melody
I like Blue with gray interior. I think the only reason the Silver topped the survey is that that's the color most of the dealers order. So it's really an article about the Dealer's favorite colors.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Godiva @ Sep 22 2007, 04:24 PM) </div> You could do it in association with the local department of motor vehicles, if you could get them to cooperate. They have this info for every car on the road. If the DMV wouldn't cooperate you could try an insurance company.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(kenmce @ Sep 23 2007, 01:41 PM) </div> It would still be the colors the dealers ordered, not first choice. My choice wasn't available. I'm not the only person that had to choose from what was available.
I think red is the sexiest car color...but I could be biased... And I agree with Godiva- "favorites" when it comes to car colors is only relative to what is available when you go to buy, unless you're willing to wait to order one with everything just the way you want it. I would also prefer a darker interior in the Menace. The gray is ok, but I could wish for a few shades darker.
My first car was silver, but then...I went for the Camaro look (70's), the important look, not the color. My ever popular color was white. (had 3 of those)...looked so clean when it was cleaned! and it hardly ever needed it. Then came black (only one)... the never-ever pleasing color, demanding so much attention and getting just a bit. So, I am back to silver...I can go for weeks and it still looks sooooooooooo good!
I pulled up at a get together this afternoon and there was another Prius parked out in front. Based on the bumper stickers I knew exactly who's it was -- walked in told her we had just gotten one also -- and that mine was a better color than hers since mine was Red. I just opened my mouth and it came out. She said they didn't pick the Silver one - just happened that someone ordered it -- didn't take it and they got a great deal on it.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(WMSmom @ Sep 23 2007, 07:16 PM) </div> And rightfully so!!!! But your car is not just red, it is SALSA RED!!! Come on folks, take the hint. The "hottest" car color is the one which was named after a hot food. I've lost count of the number of times Prius drivers said to me that they wish they got the same color I did.
