Well folks, I was on my way to work today in my Prius, and got hit by a big rig!

Luckily it was at a VERY low speed, and I am ok. The Prius on the other hand isn't looking too hot.

I don't think it's bad enough to total it, but it will need a lot of rebuilding.

Overall I am very impressed with how it handled the impact! It crumpled, and I didn't absorb the hit.

So, to the rest of you, enjoy your Prius and the great mileage every day! I hope that I will get it within a month, because gas is way too expensive!

    Happy Prius'in

I am attaching one pic for you to see a little of the damage. EDIT: The pic doesn't show much- but the rim is bent....

Ya know, that is just painful to look at, but it doesn't seem too extensive. I'm really glad you're OK. Did the rig just drive into you?

Pretty much! He wasn't watching the road and plowed right into me. Scary!

I'm glad he didn't push you into anything.

Years ago I saw a piggyback double North Carolina trailer plow OVER a convertible sports car.

The back wheels of the truck's cab was at the very end of the hood of the car.

In front of the sports car was a gasoline tanker! Thank God the truck stopped before it got to the tanker full of gas!

The guy in the sports car? He saw the trucker coming and flattened himself out in the car long ways. He only suffered a broken collar bone.

He was one lucky son of a gun!

To tell you the truth, the trucker never saw the sports car cause it was too dang on low to the ground and out of sight!

So, that should tell us something about driving the Prius when there are truckers around, they just might not see you!

Sorry for your damage, and hope you were not hurt!

There was another accident further up the road, and I think he may have been looking at that instead of in front of him... but yea, he said he didn't see me!

For those of you that know the area, I was leaving San Pedro going towards Long Beach via the Vincent Thomas Bridge.

Ouch. That sucks. :( Good to hear to that you're ok though. I hope you'll be able to get your Prius back out onto the road soon. I'm guessing you're not going to have to pay for any of the damages right? It sounds like the big rig was at fault.

Sorry to hear that, and glad to hear you are ok, a car is replaceable, life however is not, well until cloning comes around.

I really don't worry about head-on collisions - it's the distracted guys from behind that concern me....and they struck again. :(

Ouch! Glad everyone's OK, though. Just got my baby back after a smashup, so I know how it hurts to see your Pri hurt. Don't forget to make them pay for the reduction in value of your baby after they fix it.

I would insist the dealer do the repair, and that they FULLY check out the rear wheel alignment. There are threads about how Toyota will not shim or replace the rear axle if it can't be aligned correctly (at least not under warrantee). Be SURE that they check all angles (toe, track, camber) before you accept the car, and I would get the readings in writing.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh... OUCH! Were you on the Vincent Thomas Bridge when he hit you? That would NOT be a fun place to get into an accident. That bridge is scary enough as it is! There are so many big rigs in that area too with all the port deliveries. Good luck to you!

That is a bummer. Sorry you're going to be without your Prius for awhile. Hope it isn't too long.
