The other day, I was driving through a construction area and hit a pothole. Immediately after, I heard an awful scraping, grinding noise, so loud I couldn't even tell which side of the car it was on. I pulled over a couple blocks later when it continued to get worse. The brakes seemed to be operating normally and no lights showed up on the dash. I turned off the car and did a little inspection of the wheel areas. Didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Turned the car back on to try to continue home as I was only 2 miles away. Everything seemed to be working normally then, no abnormal sound whatsoever.

    Any idea what happened here?
I am due for an oil change next week, so I'll have it inspected then anyway.

Are you sure it wasn't a construction worker? Maybe he crawled away when you stopped.

One of the plastic lower parts may have been rubbing and then fell off, but at least get an alignment.

I was listening to 'car talk' on NPR one day and some lady had the same question about her Accord. They told her that it's the ABS working properly and you don't have to worry. May be it's the same thing happened to you. Get it checked anyway.

It was probably just a rock that was rubbing on the rotor and then fell off. It has happened to me several times and also reported here several times.

You might want to get the alignment checked.
