I searched but didn't see this issue listed on any Gen 4 topics.

2021 Toyota Prius LE AWD. No mods or anything done. The other night, I turned on the high beams, nothing, and no blue indication light on the dash. That's odd! I checked the "Auto" high beam switch and it was off so I turned it on and got the note on the dash with the auto high beam construction.

But the auto indicator light on the dash wasn't on and, again, the highs never came one.

It seems the ONLY way the car puts the brights on is if I pull on the lever...won't come on any other way...and pulling on the lever is the only way to get the blue high beam light to come on the dash.

Anybody heard of this? I haven't hooked up my scanner (XTool D7) to troubleshoot...could it be a fuse went out?

If the problem were a fuse wouldn't that mean the high beams wouldn't come on at all? (A bad fuse woud be an answer of sorts, but it wouldn't tell you what is wrong in the system that it burned out the fuse.)

Could the contact at the stalk be so worn or dirty that it isn't connecting?

I wouldn't know since I'm a luddite and always use the stalk.

Since your high beams work with the stalk, I would guess you have a sensor issue or relay issue. Was you eye-sight camera clear and was the windshield clear of debris?

Well my car is filthy dirty right now from the latest 3-day snow storm Colorado just got....I'll get her washed and see if that helps....I"m also suspecting the switch or relay inside the lever since it seems to activate when pulled but not when I push it on.

Yep, that sounds like a bad stalk.
See if you can find another one and just plug it in to confirm, before ripping everything apart.

Okay, chalk this up to Operator Error!

I searched Toyota parts, a new switch lever is $196! Then I was looking through my digital Owner's Manual and it mentioned the DRL (daytime running lights) on the lever.

So I went out to the car, yep, it was on DRL, not all the way on the on position....brights are working just fine, both on Auto and manually. (Since the car turns the light off automatically, I usually just leave the lights on DRL...never even thought about checking it when the brights wouldn't work right.

Phew...I KNEW my 3-year old car can't already be having issues, it's not a Ford!!!
