Hey guys! new member here. I've been reading on here for a few months, but finally signed up. I bought my 2010 prius 4 back in July and have yet to do much to it. One of the things I really want to do it upgrade to an HID set. The stock halogens just flat out suck. I've been looking at the DDM Tuning and the Xenon Supply The question I have is what color temperature do you guys suggest? I'm looking for a bright white, no blue. Also, the DDM ones give you the option of either 35w of 55w. Any suggestions? Thanks for you help! -Brian
I'd recommend a 4300k 35W kit. 4300k is a bit warmer, but it's going to put out a bit more light than 5000k.
Since the 4300k outs out more light, what about going with a 5000k but the 55k? I just want to be sure they look "crystal" white. Maybe I'm just being overly picky
Looks or performance/safety? On wet roads, the warmer 4300k light provides contrast and you can see the illumination. That's why yellow foglights are the best for bad conditions. The white light of a higher temperature bulb washes out and isn't as visible on a wet surface. If you experience bad conditions, especially foggy, rainy conditions, the 4300k won't cause as much reflected glare in your eyes which decreases visibility further. SCH-I535
Ahhh...gotcha. Thanks! Sounds like I should go with the 4300k. I actually never knew that about the fog lights! I've always wondered why people like the yellow ones. I know this is relatively off topic, but are the 2012 OEM fogs yellow?
The oem foglights are sold as clear lens, clear H11 halogen bulbs. So they will be 4300k. You can get yellow H11 halogen bulbs in the 2500k to 3500k range for more contrast in bad weather for your foglights. SCH-I535
For me, 5000k is best. Nothing worse than seeing vehicles going the opposite direct with purple and dim blue headlights. The color sucks with very little light output.
5000K 35w is just about as bright as you can get... 4800K is the sweet spot that has the most lumens output. I have the 6K 55w DDM Tunning setup and they are bright!
you could also get the fog light housing in yellow from ebay... here's mine..... then I use a 35W H11 3000K HID kit from Japan... here's the light output.....
